Chinese Photinia is a large old-fashioned evergreen shrub or small tree that is finding revived popularity in Texas landscapes Since P. serratifolia 'Nova Lineata' as seen in Seattle produces the same shorter, broader habit and leaves as the one asked about here shows (but with sections of variegation) maybe this one is the P. serratifolia 'Nova' described by Arthur Lee Jacobson in North American Landscape Trees (1996, Ten Speed Press, Berkeley): "Common. Spring foliage intense copper instead of bronze. Unlike regular California P. serratifolia stock, it sets berries, in clusters up to 10"-12" wide. Thank you. I thought it was, but the person said it bloomed in umbels in the spring so then I thought maybe I was wrong. They must be remembering a nearby shrub that does bloom in umbels. Remy

what it looks like to me.... in those small pix ... is a grafted crabapple ... which never had the understock sprouts removed... leading to differing growth habits between the cultivar and the understock .... any chance of that?? at my first house.. i inherited one .... that had half pink flowers.. half white flowers.. and then the fruits were both individually yellow and pink/red .... it was way beyond salvage... and in an out of the way spot.. so i left it be ... ken
