Thuja Plicata Cultivars Growth Rates
Comments (7)i recognize your name.. did i answer this anywhere else??? they will ALL get too big for most yards.... its just a matter of how many decades ... plant something a little exciting.. rather than choosing by size alone ... see link for conifer intro .. its all about annual growth rate.. multiply by 10 for common size ESTIMATES... double it for 20 years.. as trees.. they never really stop growing ... when you buy.. INSIST on.. and select ONLY single leader trees ... to avoid storm damage down the years ... at the link.. is also a coniferbase link .. sometimes you can hit pay dirt on information ... try only the cultivar name w/o quote marks .. species have one growth rate.. plants with lesser growth rates are usually 'named' varieties .. ken Here is a link that might be useful: the conifer sizes part...See MoreVery thin Nigra arborvitae,.....how to promote growth?
Comments (1)how about a pic??? are they in full sun??? normal growth for all arbs.. is that they are nudie inside ... so IMO ... you are not going to make them grow inside the canopy ... but then.. if in full sun.. or lets say.. adequate light.. the exterior canopy.. should be dense ... fertilizer is not going to change.. lack of sunlight.. if that is the issue ken...See MoreGreen Giant Arborvitae Growth
Comments (7)And you don't think we knew what we were planting? HAHAHAHAHA! As I said, they are all over this neighborhood. They line many of the properties. AND .... this neighborhood is 20 years old. These are NOTHING like Leland Cypress trees. What was there were enormous Bradford Pear Trees. Now talk about intrusion, stinky dirty trees. But hey, I guess we always have to have a Debbie Downer in the group. These green giants are beautiful all over this neighborhood and surrounding areas. This is not England! These conifers are used all the time for privacy. Try not to be so snarky! And by the way, the south is full of Leland Cypress as well. They are gorgeous. Brutally topping a pyramidial cypress? Never heard of such a thing. No wonder it won't recover. Hacking off the narrowest part of the tree, real smart! A wall of these trees was exactly what we AND our neighbors wanted. On the contrary, I know what a wall of these is going to look like because I see it everyday where we live so my vision about what these will be is bliss. We are certainly not concerned about 12 foot wide trees in that spot although many that have been here for 20 years are not 12 feet wide. There is more than plenty of room and our neighbors back is an usable hill. They were thrilled. I didn't post this to get into an argument about planting location. I posted this to show how beautiful and fast they grow. Just a sample of how they are used here....See MorePyramidalis arborvitae growth rate in SE MI
Comments (2)our growth season .... ground thaw to ground freeze, minus a long cold spring and fall .. keeps metro detroit on the low side of annual growth rates given ... as compared to say.. the near year round growth in the PNW ... or anywhere warmer than us .. including all the growers predictions.. they mostly being the the PNW or multiple zones south of us ... you best info found on search engines.. ... in the conifer world are found suing the full latin trinomial ... Thuja occidentalis Pyramidalis what is your project ... de groots spire might work.... and grow faster .... ken...See Morebrandon7 TN_zone7
