Cool hardy perennials from seed for kids

I have been placed in charge of a bunch of 2nd and 3rd grade Jr. Gardeners for a spring garden club. To my surprise, the school schedules their after school clubs at the end of Feb to run for 6 weeks to early April putting me in an awkward position for gardening. Our last frost date isn't until mid-May. Our only available outdoor space was planted with pansies for spring.

What perennial seeds or plants can I look for that the kids can sow or plant in qt-gal containers during this six weeks? They take these containers home with them after each session.

I start later perennial seeds in flats all the time, but I have a light and heat table set up which I'm sure most of the kids won't have. Ideas?
