Help, can I plant a viburnum next to an irrigation line?!

Can I plant an burkwood viburnum within a foot or two of an irrigation line? The irrigation line for a sprinkler system is 1" schedule 40 pvc pipe that is about 10" deep. Since a viburnum is a shrub I would guess that the roots don't grow too deep and would not be strong enough to damage a pipe? This line is always pressurized (main line) so I thought I would check just to make sure. Thanks!
