Sidewalk to paver patio step Q

Anthony

We are looking to clad our old concrete staircase with pavers. It's specially designed for the task and a little under 2" thick. We will have enough extra to do a patio over the concrete slab at the base of the stairs.

The problem is that the walk to that patio (and then the stairs) is not good enough to coat with the overlay pavers and demo would involve removing a lot of landscaping and more cost in pavers (project creep at its finest).

So we're debating the trip hazard of having a small 2" step from concrete sidewalk to paver patio. It would be distinct, which is nice, but it's also shorter than 4" (considered the minimum height for any "official" stairs).

I've seen it done before, but figured I'd come here for advice before we made a final decision.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony
