Pennsylvania Bluestone is a sandstone/quartzite type stone, very different from a basalt. But your point about "names" should be well considered. Quarries and suppliers can and will name their products anything to get your attention and improve its marketability. However a "name" is not proof that a stone is suitable for any particular purpose. I worked in the architechural/dimensional stone trade for a number of years (hence my screen name) and remember a few years back when a stone was put on the market from India. It was billed as a cheaper substitute for another well known black monument stone. It was well recieved and used in more than a few applications. The stone turned out not to fair well in some climates. It cracked and crazed in the colder places causing big problems. So that's why it's important to know exactly what you're getting from your supplier. Stone is cheap to ship all over the world because it's used to weigh down ships (keel weight) to keep them from flipping in high seas. Do your homework and you won't be caught by surprise from using a stone that's not good for your purpose.

Many of the larger roof-mounted blowers from Broan/Nutone and (and the Broan-manufactured 1500-cfm Wolf-supplied external blower I have) are single speed wound motors capable of being controlled by a motor control. While a Variac(R) and its analogues (variable autotransformers) would work nicely as a motor control, they are usually too large for easy integration into a residential wall or into a hood. SCR or triac* based motor controls, usually designed to be mounted in a standard wall receptacle box, should work nicely. The schematic for the Wolf island hood that I have not yet installed shows a control with a shaft, electrically connected to a module with a triac symbol on it. I expect the control is continuously variable, but won't be fishing in the box for a while yet to find out. Wolf could have designed (specified) the control to have several sequential resistance settings instead of continuous variability, even though triacs are capable of continuous variability. kas *Triac is a General Electric originated name for a semiconductor device having the property of a bi-directional silicon controlled rectifier.

Might want to try revo uninstaller, this will get rid of possible reg keys that may be an issue, then once more reinstall it, after cleaning out temp files. Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning. in chicago, i have a raised patio (442 sq ft) that is set at 11" below the sliding door threshold. as a result, we need to raise patio surface 4". my questions are, if we build up a 2.5 " motar bed on the existing conrete patio and lay 1.5" bluestone uopn the motar bed, 1) will this construction sustain itself thru freeze/thaw cycles? 2) should we, or should not use a moisture liner system between the motar and stone?
