Can I/should I/ how to prune flowering quince

I have a very lovely flowering quince which is the highlight of my April garden, but it has gotten much larger than I anticipated --6 feet tall & quite wide too(I thought it would be more like the Texas Scarlet quince that I had, much more compact) and I really would like the garden space for other things. It is too large to move, I think. Can I reduce its size by about half without doing it much harm?

By the way, it has two branches that are flowering now, weeks after the rest of the bush!

And I wish I had gotten a picture, but in the middle of its abundance of pink and white blossoms, it had ONE scarlet red bloom!
