Pro-Mix BX to start bare root hybrid tea roses?

Has anybody had experience using Pro-Mix BX to start bare root hybrid tea roses?

I have used Pro-Mix BX for potted (hybrid tea) roses for a few years and really like the results. I bought small potted roses from local garden center then put them in bigger pots filled with Pro-Mix BX.

I will receive some bare root roses from Hortico in early April. I plan to put some in ground and some in pots. I was strongly cautioned NOT to use any soil with any trace of nitrogen to start those roses. I'm not sure if Pro-Mix BX has any nitrogen (spec only says that it containts starter nutrition).

Also, is it a good idea to start them in small plastic container first then later put in ground or bigger pots? I live in metro Boston area, it's zone 5a/5b/6, depends on where you look up the zone. It's a litte chilly in early April, so I'll put them in my attached garage first.

Any help is appreciated!
