I'd like a blue rose for a red lady

Somebody said they have finally hybridized a blue rose so I went and read up on it. I don't think it's going to work. They have taken out a gene and inserted a pansy gene. The prototype is mauve, but they are still fine-tuning.

You know that pansies are all kinds of colors and their off-spring can be anything. I got to thinking of those striped tulips which were actually caused by a virus.

Would these new roses smell like pansies? You never know.

Here's the story, and I'm wondering what your opinion is.
