tea colored water

Hi. This is my first time on the forum and I am a first time pond owner. I have had the pond up and running for about 8 weeks. It is about 7 ft long and about 3 feet wide and 3 ft deep at deepest. I have a pump to run the waterfall and that is it. No filter. No fish. I am pretty vigilant about keeping leaves out but the water is still tea colored. I have a couple of water lettuce floating at top and plan on introducing more plants in spring of 08. Is there anything I can do without using filter? I don't think there is much dirt run off into pond and the water smells fine. I thought maybe minerals from rocks around pond. Please help. Thanks!
