Just wanted to add that I got rid of Abe due to rust, too, here near Sacramento. I have a Lillian Austin that I wish I could find an in-ground spot for. It is currently in a big pot and happy enough. No suggestions for the colors you are looking for, though. I am assuming you are wanting an Austin rose? If you wanted yellow, I would give a big recommendation for Symphony. It is one of my best roses. Just Joey does wonderful for me, too. Frilly and beautiful.

My best repeating, most disease resistant Austin is 'Molineux'.

If you have some patience, no more wonderful fragrance than 'Jude the Obscure'. In this garden it took quite a while to settle in and become a good repeater. Good rust resistance here.

Carding Mill works well here.

hoovb==I must be channeling you this weekend! I just bought Molineaux yesterday, too, for my front bed, which is pinks and yellows.

It's exciting to read about Molineux because I have three coming this year!

I second Masha's suggestion about Carding Mill. It has apricot blooms (no pink in it at all that I can see), blooms all the time and is really good in the heat. I can't comment on rust since I don't have any. (I was horrified to see rust on a new Gruss an Aachen and promptly got rid of it.) CM is a very nice rounded shrub, no octopus arms, and of medium size.

I've never grown Jude but remember reading somewhere on the forum that the blooms shatter rather quickly. I'm not sure whether the bush itself is as good as CM. Just some more food for thought. I do believe that Jude is more fragrant than CM, so it depends on where your priorities lie also.

My Abe Darby was beautiful for a handfull of years and then it was a constant struggle to keep it going - it did put out lovely roses though, didn't it? I finally ripped it out in dispair last fall - I don't know that I'll replace it with a rose bush at all.
