Well, I'm suspecting the heat at this point. I have three crookneck ladies that matured and bloomed yesterday, so hopefully they were pollinated. There were several males on other squash plants, so I hope it works out. If they fall off, I will figure it's lack of pollination. But it looks like it's stopped aborting buds, for now anyway. One of the pattypans has a female developing. Looks like it might bloom in a day or two. Crossing fingers! I have never had this happen before, so I was certainly puzzled. Hope it's a thing of the past. I have noticed ants on my squash plants--on the summer squash, and on my spaghetti squash (which is planted elsewhere). Could this be a contributing factor? Definately do cut out at the base, all trunks in your CM that are blooming pink. Then be certain to pinch off any new growth that the roots of those cut off branches try to keep growing. If you keep the new growth pinched off then only those roots should suffer,and the white blooming branches should begin to experience an advantage, which helps them to prosper more. Unless it is just the lighting cast on the day you took that photo of the pink blooms, the pink blooming trunks might be a Biloxi Crape Myrtle. Those bubblegum pink blooms, in my opinion are a much nicer sight than some of the more pale easily washed out pinks that some CMs produce. Anyway I only tell you this to let your know that if you do like that particular pink color and would like to have a CM growing someplace else with that color, Than simply order or find at some local nursery a Biloxi Crape Myrtle that is already blooming and that you can confirm it really is a Biloxi Crape Myrtle.

My neighbors just shake their heads, lol. I hope what I'm seeing is baby blooms since I saw several more on the other plants in the front. Whoohooo! I have never seen any bloom yet but my one from last year and its full of them. They look like tiny buds. I can't wait. Doing a happy dance, lol. Mike I have to move Xena. She doesn't like it in the flower bed at all, lol. Going to have to pot her back up and put her in more shade I think. I was giving her some time to adjust but she just won't grow any new leaves. They called and thank goodness I checked my asnwering machine since they cancelled my MRI in the morning and I would have drove a couple of hours for nothing. I have to call back in the morning and reschedule so I can move her in the morning now. They said the machine was broke.

Whereabout are you in PA? I have family from Cheswick, Sagamore, & Moshannon. It's strangely comforting (?!) to hear that other growers have also been experiencing the same probs with their Brugs. Really hoping it's just a weather related thing. Even Cornell Co-op was mystified by what could be going on with my trees! MsMorningSong: Sorry to hear you've had too much rain. Hope you get some nice flushes soon! crocuscottage: I'm on the Island too (South Levittown). This summer has been one of the worst IMO! So happy you are finally enjoying some blooms :)! I noticed my pink Brug put out a bud about 2" long but then it fell off. All the rest are still drying up & shriveling off :(. I think I'm going to give them just MG & seaweed from here on in & see if that helps any. My baby C. Grimaldi is starting to put out a bud so hopefully he'll be able to hold it. At this point, if I get ONE blossom this year, I'll be happy!
