Grafting asian pear onto medlar or quince

Scott F Smith

I finally chopped my medlar back, after watching it get more disease- and bug-ridden by the year. Now I have this nice 5" diameter trunk I would like to put some asian pears on. Using medlar as a stock is not common to say the least so I can't find much information. Medlar onto pear is supposedly partly compatible, so I figure the other way around is worth trying. Also any experience of asian pear onto quince? I also am getting rid of my quince for a similar reason as the medlars. Beyond the problems they get themselves, they are also a reservoir for diseases and bugs on my apples.
