Name that aster/caterpillar

Pretty sure I'm on track when I say this is some type of aster. The plants stood about 4 feet in height with a main central branch supporting the many half-inch white blooms in wide highly branched umbrells in mid to late summer. Thank you in advance for your help; the caterpillar wasn't talking. :) BTW, if there are any entomologists on this site, I'd love know what species of caterpillar this is also. Thank you!
