colder zones & climbing roses

I've been looking for awhile for information on climbing roses here in zone 4. and have tried to grow a CL Iceburge and a couple of others I can't remember the names of. They do very well all summer long, but come the next spring they are dead to the ground and take all summer to grow again or never come back. I mulch them very well in the fall and they are dug in deep below the union.

Does any one grow climbing roses up here in the North? If so what are you growing and what am I missing.

Thanks,

Karyn
