I guess I am only half crazy then, just planted 10 more to go with my existing 6. Here in Atlanta we love blueberries and eat them almost every day. I dont think I'll have room for 21 but still want to add a few more if I can find some Ochlockonee locally.

Man it's hard to stop, but there are much worse obsessions!! If your boys are eating blueberry that's much better than candy. Most fruit lovers are started on that path very young, at least that's my observation.

I'm really looking forward to how well you like your rabbiteye. Hopefully they'll all fruit some this spring.

It is an obsession but as you stated, a healty one! Nothing better than getting your hands dirty in the garden man. Other than fishing and hunting, its the next best thing!

Most of the plants listed wont fruit this year. Of the rabbieteyes Im expecting some fruit on Brightwell, Woodard, Beckyblue and Poweder Blue. Those were all planted last feb and are loaded with fruit buds and 4 to 5 ft tall. I plan on thining them quiet a bit in Feb so they dont overdue them selves. Should get some off of Sunshine and Emerald also. I cant wait! Thanks for everyones help on here. Expecially Fruitnut and Bamboo, I couldnt have done it with out yalls advice. My boys will thank you aswell!

I have said I am done a few times.....yet today I am calling about a liner tray of sweetcrisps which is 55 plants....not all of them are for me though.

Blueboy, seems like you have quite a selection of nice berries, I have no experience with most that you are growing.

For me, one objective with my berries is to extend the fruiting season. The earliest Rabbiteye I have is Climax, several weeks before Tifblue, and O'neal is 2-3 weeks ahead of Climax. Climax has good flavor, and is crunchy, while O'neal is large and also good, though a light bearer on an upright plant.
To extend the season I have Onslow, slightly later than Powderblue, large, flavorful, and a heavy bearer like Powderblue and Tifblue.
The ripening order can change here depending on Spring weather, sometimes throwing Climax into late ripening.
Just thought I would give you this information for when your healthy obsession kicks in and you order more plants.
Looking forward to a report on all the varieties you have. Maybe I will try some in the future. I have some Sweetcrisp on order that should arrive early this week.

Thanks for the info Benny. Ive posted several times here about Rabbiteyes but havent recieved much feed back on them. I havent really paid to much attention to ripening times with mine. I just wanted to get 1 of every variety that falls with in my chill hours and let the chips fall as they may. There are still 3 or 4 more that fit the bill but maybe in the next couple years I can make it happen.

I havent got to taste any of my Rabbiteyes yet but that will soon change. 4 of them will fruit this season! Next year I should be in full swing with all of my plants;) Of all my Rabbiteyes Powder Blue is by far the most attractive plant. I hope the berries are equal to its looks!

I see your in zone6? How are you growing your plants? Pots, in ground, green house? I figured the varieties you mentioned would be to far north for there liking?

Blueboy, Powderblue here are large and flavorful if left on the bush to ripen, and the bush is prolific, fast grower with abundant fruit. It also has many sprouts from around the base with roots on them, so it is easy to propagate.
All my plants are in the ground, some that I rooted this spring are still in pots, which I buried for the winter.
I have never had a soil test, have lots of wild Rhododendron growing here, and some wild blueberries,but it is difficult for me to grow Northern Highbush. I have lost at least 15 of them, had one 10 years old that was still small, so I finally pulled it out. I could add sulfur, but the Rabbiteyes are just easier.
I don't know as much as you about amending the soil, I just add some peat moss in the hole, and mulch with sawdust from a local sawmill. I have added some rock phosphate and some gypsum, and fertilize a few times a year, but I don't get the growth that you do. I am in the mountains with a lot of rocks in my soil, about 2000 ft. elevation.
I have about 40 plants, mostly Rabbiteyes, I think my only Southern Highbush is O'neal, have about 10 of them. And I have an Ozark Blue, whatever that is.

Well they did not have the liners which are 55 to a tray, guess it is the wrong time of the year for them so ordered 55 1 gallon sweet crisps today. At $3.50 a pot it is not a bad price at all. 27 are for me the rest are for two friends. With this 27 it brings me to 106. They are for us.....eating and wine making:)

We are all addicted blueberry growers and that's why we are here! lol.

I have 18 but I recently discovered I have room for at least 6 more......ha, ha, ha.

They are fun but challenging to grow and I'm not sure it's even possible to have "too many blueberries".

fruitnut is right about getting your kids into fruits early....that's how I learnd to enjoy the riches nature can offer.

I never really was introduced to growing stuff. I do remeber my Grandma having a dwarf plum and mulberry tree whan I was really young, like 3 or 4. All I remeber about them is eating fruit untill I got sick! I got the passion for growing stuff 3 years ago buy planting a vege garden to try and save some money. That was all she wrote! I went nuts after that and havent stopped. Plus my boys love to dig in the dirt with Dad and eat all the strawberries as we pick them. Theres something special about that!

I think gardening is in all of us. Our ancestors have gardened for generations so when we pick it up it's bound to be something that feels right.
