Does anyone grow roses by Geschwind? If so, what can you tell me about his roses? I've never heard of him before and have seen some of his roses being offered for sale.
I have an Asta von Parpat I got from Vintage a few years ago - from a tiny band it just started putting out some very nice long canes late last year (and even re bloomed!) so I expect good things this season. It does not have any fragrance that I could discern, however is quite disease free and the color is very cheery. I have one photo of her, but it is not helpful since you can't see the size of the bloom (about the size of a 50 cent pc.)nor does it show that she often blooms in clusters. Still, I have attached it if you want to look. I will have to get more photos this year!
I do have a few more on order - more zone 4 experimenting, I'm afraid. Wish me luck here with Erinnerung an Brod (which Rogue Valley says is very fragrant) Geschwind's Norland Rose Geschwind's Orden (neither of these last two are proported to have much scent.)

I think he was a hungarian hybridizer that some say was ahead of his time, his specialty was hardiness. I think he used a lot of species roses in his program. sort of like the pre-dr. buck. I planted a band of geschwind's schonste last fall. we'll see how it does.
His Gypsy Boy (Zigeunerknabe) is the only once blooming bourbon that actually bloomed and an exotic crimson-purple for me in zone 3a - Bourbon Queen and Vari.Bolg. also once blooming bourbons but not his, gave me nothing and are gone.
Other roses of his such as Grus an Teplitz, Eugene A. Merlitt, Leopold Ritter also have done well in 3a - with winter protection.
Only disappointments have been his Erinnerung An Brod that died outright over winter and Northland Rose which has failed to bloom in two seasons. His Heaven's Eye I got was not it - some austin - so don't know about that one.
Looking at his Orden so far this spring, I do believe I will be missing a bloom this season as I let it winter with no cane protection.
Taking a chance and trying from Europe this year another 20 or so of his but on R. laxa.
Basically to me all I have tried on multi-flora are king kong growers relative to similar varieties in a designated class. Some people have issues in bloom form with his roses and the color spectrum
