As Calistoga said. But if you want to test for germination after you pull them from the frig use the damp towel method in a close container outside the frig. Check daily but use a germination guide to understand the typical time to germination for that specific seed. These are only guides. I have seen seeds germinate quicker if in a warm moist environment.

I bought some T&M seeds just for the fun of it, and followed the instructions: Pluck off the orange fluff, put in moist sand, and put in absolute darkness in warmth. I had six out of eight seeds germinate, starting about a month afterwards, and going on to about three months. Plumeria gets quite large, up to about ten metres (30ft) or so, if I remember correctly, but can be kept smaller in pots. They take at about four years or so to start flowering, from what I've read. They are easy to germinate, though. I just stuffed the seeds upright, half-buried (just the seed part, not including the wing), into the soil, wing-side up, and they germinated in a few weeks. Be very careful, though, the stems of the seedlings are extremely fragile, I've found. A bit of shear pressure on them, and they snap easily. Pecans, I have no experience with. Palms, I haven't germinated, but I had some seeds someone gave me, and he said you just put it in some moist soil and wait for a couple of weeks, and they'll germinate. Good luck!

Thanks for your input! I have had the agastache AND the lavender Munstead in the garden in the past, and not come back, either due to rotting/wetness or cold, or both. So I decided to try them in pots. To be honest, they were already-grown pots purchased locally on sale and from Bluestone Perennials, on sale last year. I love them for cutting. I am pretty sure they are doing fine out in the unheated garage...we water a little every few weeks, that's all. The Chabaud carnations I planted from seed...will bloom this summer. I winter-sowed a bunch of other annuals/perennials a few weeks ago in pots/containers. We still have tons of snow, so it will be a few months before anything gets planted out anyway. :0) Phyl

Jaro (and Resin): This is a fascinating thread, especially with all of the photos. Thanks for making these available. I just ordered a packet of these seeds but have no idea how many to expect because they're simply coming as a 10 gram packet. They look pretty huge, so I fear I may not have nearly as many coming as I'd hoped. Do you have any idea how many of the Maxipinon seeds there are to the ounce/gram? Resin, you suggested using a prophylactic fungicide. I bought something a few years back marketed as Chinosol (See http://shop.piwine.com/shopsite/prwc/product226.html ) Will this do the job? If not, what particular product do you use? I'm curious as well whether the Maxipinon is indeed only hardy to Zone 9. It would make sense given its origins, but I'm curious just how rigorously this was tested. Jaro, will you be growing your trees under glass indefinitely? Good luck with these new trees. I'd love to see more pics of them as they continue to grow out. John
