Rochelle, Did you quarantine the new fish? How are they acting? If you added the new fish as soon as you got home with them, did you add the water they were brought home in? Just wondering what you might have brought into your pond parasite and bacteria wise. Glenda

Oh Glenda I am afraid you are right. I love my little fish I have had them for about two years. I just went out and I found two dead and one almost dead so I removed him. My orginal fish are still alive but they are moving pretty slow and laying on the bottom a lot. My husband put the fish and water in the pond but when I got home I put them in a holding pond untill I could put new water in and get the de clorinate in. Is there any thing I might can do ???

Well, how big is your pond? To go from 2 to 10 fish might be putting a load on the filter/O2 levels, disease, lots of variables.

Have you checked your water quality? Nitrates, ammonia etc?

Thanks for your reply my pond is about 150 gallons it is really clear. I do not know about checking for nitrates or ammonia I have a good pond filter that pumps 35 gallons per hr. it is working good.I am wondering if i condition some water and get my old fish out if they may have a better chance. I gave three of my new fish to school teacher last week and one of them has died. I lost another fish this morning.The fish that have died are the new ones and they look like they have hemorhaged around their tails.

Glenda will be more knowledgeable than I am, but it sounds like a bacterial problem, what with the bloody tail. It might be that they got it from your pond, rather than the other way around. Your older fish adapted and developed an immunity. The new fish didn't have time. Good advice to quarantine and add pond water slowly. Sandy

There really isn't any way of knowing whether it was that the new fish got the bacteria from the pond or the bought fish contaminated the pond and existing fish. You do need to know if your ammonia is high, what your nitrates and nitrites are. You could take some water in to a pet store and ask them to test it for you. But sometimes the people working in pet shops aren't exactly knowledgible and they will try to sell you all kinds of "snake oil". You could try salting your pond with non-iodized salt at the rate of 1 Tablespoon salt to each 10 gallons water. And do this each day for 2 more days. I don't know if this will help. Do any of the existing live fish have any marks or spots of any kind on them? Glenda

Thanks glenda and Sandy I think i will try the salt. my largest fish that I have had for two years looks to have a few white spots. really small I don't know if they were always there. I only have two of the new fish I bought one black and one gold the gold has black places like streaks of black, and that may be his color,I don't know.

I also I was wondering,I have a huge frog in my pond I have recently noticed him .could he cause me any trouble? he is the biggest frog I have ever seen.

Just to let you know,My fish seem to be doing much better.I didn't get the salt in,but will remember it if I should ever need it.
I may go ahead and put it in as a precaution.I bought 11 fish and gave three to a friend she lost one of hers and I had 8 new fish and lost 6 of them
I am a real novice at ponds,but my pond has been such an enjoyment to me and my DH.
