Adding lime to a newly planted lilac

I just bought and planted a mature lilac Sarah Sands. In my excitement I didn't think to add lime to the planting hole. In any event I have never been clear about changing the Ph around a lilac.

The plant is maybe 4 feet across. The Root ball 3 feet across and 200-300 lbs. The area where I planted it used to be my old compost heap so I assume it is fairly acid.

Do I just fill a bucket with water and lime and pour over rootball and repeat seasonally? How much water how much lime?

Or is there a more measured way? Ph meters etc.

Thanks.
