help sizing pump for stock tank

The owner of the local feed store delivered my 8' stock tank this morning. I hadn't planned to fill it till spring but, as predicted on this forum, the 2 office goldfish are outgrowing the 19 gal. tub. I don't think they'll make it till spring. I'm going to go ahead and get it running asap and I'll feel better about overwintering both fish and plants.

It's 760 gal. This year I'm just going to build a small skippy filter (20 gal) but next spring I'll add a 90-100 gal veggie filter. I'm trying to decide between a 950 gph pondmaster and the 1200 gph. I don't think I want to BLAST water through the filters but I'm worried the 950 won't be enough once both are connected. Which would you more experienced small pond people get?

And also - What about diverting some of the water this winter to a bubbler fountain for aeration? Is it OK to run the PM all winter or should I just get a separate air pump? I'll be using a de-icer, too.

Thanks as always!

Vanessa
