I believe you can plant them out anytime. They love full sun and you can put leafmold in the hole and mix it in. They like that. Dig them up after flowering and divide them if needed to make more. Deadhead right behind the seedhead so the plant doesn't use all it's energy trying to set seed. Nip spent flowers off but leave the stems until they turn brown. They can then be removed by pulling them out of the ground. They come out easily. You can of course leave some flowers to set seed but the easiest way to propagate is by division. The seeds are slow to germinate and I belive it can take years before they produce flowers.

The flower is white, maybe 1" wide,and has 5 petals that twirl open. Also the stem and branches have a reddish hue. I have another photo of the flower but I'm a first-timer here and dont see "upload photo" on follow-up posts. Any help is much appreciated!

Kat, we have been anxiously awaiting the blooms to open like an expectant parent LOL that is just how he was when he came running in to wake me!! He could well have been saying the baby was born! Hey at our age we are easily amused LOL I have many many more blooms yet to open and I have more baby plants still coming up! Do these prefer sun or shade for planting? the tape suggestion is a great idea! I would not have thought of that. I have fought with that pollen many times because I buy the flowers often. My cleaning lady hated them because of the pollen, one day she came in and she was covered with it, she had it from her face to the tips of her fingers. I said have you looked in a mirror yet? She was not happy with me.

Here ya go, ladies. A new thread on what you want to do at this stage of your life. I'm pushing 69. I have horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and parrots. I do dog/pet boarding at my home. I make quilts at the church. I'm working on my family genealogy. I have a bigger garden than I need. For the past few years I've thought I was going to seed 1/3 of it down but then spring arrives and I think I have to plant every seed I have. Now that I'm retired every day is a vacation day! Retirement is everything I had hoped it would be. Well, a bit more money would be good. My 140 year old house could stand some new siding. That would be in the category of winning lottery ticket. One thing I do need to change........exercise! Last winter my jeans got SO tight, how tight were they? Couldn't get them buttoned or zipped. I bought a treadmill at a rummage sale and brought the exercise bike in from storage. They are parked in the living room. I need an exercise buddy to make me do it. I don't know why I think I have to wait until there's snow on the ground to get busy on them!
