I'm back once again

This is Rozanna and I have missed everyone so much. The last 4 years have been dedicated to debt reduction and repairing the damage to the home that the ex did to it while I was away and trying to keep the remainder of the garden alive. Now it is time to rejuvenate it. Have ordered from Pickering and the DH has already planted out the Buck roses - he immediately had an affinity to Buck roses and we have about 15 little bands from Vintage resting until we can get them into larger pots. I feel bereft without a pot ghetto. My own mother said "great, you are collecting again".

Again I have missed you all tremendously

Rozanna, I often think of you and wonder how things are going. So glad to hear positive news from you and to have you back! Did the roses you imported from Europe survive?

Its hard to stay away from this forum for long :o) Hi Brad, I have to say that I can see how some people can find a certain fragrance a "bit much". I've had to take my Lacunosa and my KP/KQ outside when I have several blooming at the same time. For me it can become very strong and overpowering. As a matter of fact I grow most of my larger hoyas outside most of the year due to space and the overpowering scent when they are all blooming at the same time. It can give me a headache,lol...

Hey, not sure on the birdbath but since you have had the Bluebirds eating mealworms you could get some dried mealworms and rehydrate them in water for about an hour or so then drain them before you give them to the Blues. I have been doing this for about 2 weeks now and they are eating them like crazy! Much cheaper than the live ones too I get them for $7 (tax included) for a container of approx 5,000 at a store here in town. I am on my fourth container so far. So much cheaper than the live ones. Mine don't overwinter here but I will continue to feed them until they leave.

We call these guys professionals. I guess the term has broadened its meaning. It used to be that anything that produced a physical result was a "trade", which required a knowledge of materials and practices with these materials. The person was "in the trade" and a tradesperson. Back then, white collar people produced results that were far more intangible, and their activities came to be grouped into field they "profess" to know, claim to know, can profess to know. Obviously, a tradesperson also has a lot of knowledge. Ideally they receive a lot of supervised training. This is a strict requirement for plumbing and electricity. Stone-cutting-polishing is not an organized profession. -- In any field, profession or trade, there are bad methods that enable the practitioner to get off scot free with the cooperation of his/her coworkers. Some TV shows highlight this a lot and make you laugh while it's happening. (NCIS is one example). aliris19, your OP's last question was "And when some or all of this didn't happen, then what? " Like the last big line in the movie Casablanca, right after they apparently get told there is illegal gambling going on and they say "Really? Wow. Ok. " But they knew there was gambling going on. Then somebody gets killed and a guy says in an ordering voice "Go round up the usual suspects". In both situations they already knew it all. They knew who the right person was to arrest for the killing but they pretend to be dumb and they set out to go round up some "suspects". You must be the more threatening entity. There has to be a hint of a threat. Not a real threat, which they can push back consciously and brush off. You too can play dumb and let them sense that you will play smart once they act honestly. Oh golly, did I write your last check from the right account? Let me see. Oh, gee, I think you already got that payment. This can be your means to be threatening. They must be motivated to act honestly. If knowledgeable people are not using their knowledge to produce results, you cannot be merely asking technical questions. You must ALSO manage the motivation and honesty equation. -- Assuming there is money still owing, someone might say "well give us X thousand now and we'll come back for the remaining money ( " $Y " ) when we fix the outstanding problems" To which you can say, if I can't get you to come back and fix things for a large amount like $ X+Y, then I know you won't come back and fix things for a much smaller amount. If you EVER concede to pay anything partial along the way, you lose the argument. If you like losing arguments, losing your position, losing ground, go ahead and give them some more money for any reason. Go ahead and concede. Give in. In the FAQ for first-time renovators, some of these strong tactics could be decribed. But a lot depends on the individual. Have you ever had to get medical bills reduced ? Hth

Laurie and Brody, thanks for posting those photos! Kmcg - No, I'd rather have some type of footboard. My Grandparents don't have a footboard in their spare room and I was never a fan. With DH being non neat cover sleeper, they'll be all over the floor. Footboard at least helps to catch it some! :) Still the on the hunt Found a couple other furniture places to check out. This bed is by Century. This is my new favorite. I'm not sure the finish will work. They don't really have a cherry color. (see link below for finishes) 65 W, 3.75 D, 75.75 H #6 This is also by Century but it's at a different place I'd have to check out. 69.75 W, 87.25 D, 88.25 H #7 It's not so much the posts as it is a high headboard for me. Oooo..I also love these two but don't see them working. Don't know if they're the same brand but the one store I'm going to has them. Basically just wanted to show someone these. :) Now I have no idea what the prices are for the first two. There's none on the site. I'm willing to pay a good chunk for a bed but there is a limit, IYKWIM. Anyone know what these run? You might end up saving me a trip. Here is a link that might be useful: 1st bed

thank you all. Now I have a wonderful partner who gardens more than I and has encouraged me. Yes Florence, it is. really me and I still have some of my import roses, although thankfully I gave some of them away and hope they have lived happily in their new homes.

Rozanna-----I'm so happy to find you again and happy to hear you found someone who shares your love of roses--I remember meeting you and your mother at Susan's home on Long Island--Life seems to fly by so swiftly--we all had such a nice "family" over on Conversations--
Hope you keep in touch and visit here more often--

Thank you Rosefolly---I love that picture also---New Dawn and I are the same age so I feel a kinship to her---plus my mother had a rose on the side of our home when I was a child and many years later discovered it was ND---I often wonder how she was able to afford a rose bush during the depression--

Rozanna, I remember you too and am glad to see you posting again.

Actually, I thought about you the other day when looking at your picture of 'Redoute's Red Noisette' - I just wondered if you still have it and how large it is...?

Excellent news that you're back, Rozanna, and that you've been blessed with a rosey DH. I started on the ARF just before you went to Denver. I'm so glad to hear your garden is being renewed and added to. Hope you haven't forgotten how to post pics. :))

Well DH beat me to the punch. Got home today and he had all the bare roots from Pickering either planted or planted in pots. I noticed he had planted the Buck roses in the ground in prominent places - he has a thing for Mr. Buck's roses.

Lewane, Sounds like you have some noisettes? I have a number of them and just love them. How do they do in your garden and what zone are you in? Also, do you give them any support or let them grow just as a free standing bush? I have been away from the forum here for a few years myself, didn't realize how much I missed reading and learning from others. Glad you are back as well.

Zeffyrose, Liked your new dawn picture as well. Is that a pickle jar sitting in your window behind new dawn?

Maryland Rose, all of my Noisettes are self supporting - now they may "lean" on a fence but I don't help them. I have lost some of the larger ones so that may change. Right now the only thing in the yard that I have helped climb is the reblooming form of White Lady Banks, Purezza and it is tied to the chicken house - DH calls it the chicken house rose and the other is Arcata Pink Globe which I trained up an old wooden ladder but I think the rose is now supporting the ladder and not the ladder supporting the rose.

After my day in the barrel at work this morning my sister called and said there was a new nursery near us and they had Peggy Martin - all I can say is I a now the proud of a Peggy Martin Rose.

Peggy Martin rose looks like a winner--hope to see pictures as yours grows.

David you are right---that is a pickle jar---this is the only picture I can find and it isn't very clear ---it is on the bottom shelf near the vase---It is a lovely cranberry color---I could try a better picture when I learn the new camera---

I just purchased a Peggy Martin last year, planted her in the fall. The rose never lost its leaves here in zone 6a. Excited to see what she will do this season. From all reports, she is quite a rose!

I have a pickle jar just like that, from a great Aunt & Uncle that was a wedding gift in 1904. All of your cranberry glass is beautiful and just accents those roses!
