Josse or Bloomerang Lilac Feedback?
Comments (0)I was thinking of purchasing these two lilacs this year and was wondering if anyone had any feedback on either one of them good or bad? I have heard that the Josse has excellant mildew resistance and have had mixed reviews on the Bloomerang's mildew resistance. Thank you for any help!...See MoreReblooming lilac - Bloomerang
Comments (13)We have butterflies occasionally visiting them, but I wouldn't call it a butterfly magnet. That's what Buddleja species are for. As far as fragrance, the only lilacs that "smell like a lilac" are the S. vulgaris cultivars and hybrids. Nearly all lilacs are fragrant in some manner, and Bloomerang Purple is no exception. Fragrance is similar to other small flowered lilacs (which this definitely is) like Dwarf Korean, Miss Kim, Josee, laciniata, etc. Ours are on their 3rd bloom cycle. Oddly enough I whacked them back 50%, and rather than form new leaf buds and start growing, the axillary flower buds pushed out and started to bloom. I think this will be a good garden-worthy plant, but may be a little more picky about its growing conditions. Watch for more colors in the Bloomerange series in the future. Comments (1)I have one and amm not that impressed. It does sort of flower thru out the summer but mine never grew grew very tall and the flowers were tiny. Might be too cold here in the winters. Was - 40 for a while . It's survival of the fittest here so maybe with some TLC it would thrive....See MoreBloomerang Lilac
Comments (9)I have had my Bloomerang for 2 years now, and I must say that I am pleased with its performance so far. I bought it as a small-ish plant during the end of season clearance 2 years ago. It was planted during summer so it really did not have a long period to settle in before winter came. It did just fine after the first winter and even bloomed and grew healthily. Then it did have recurrent blooms but they were rather sparse. I did not expect much as a first year shrub anyway. Then this year, despite our terrible and long winter, it came back just fine and is now full of lush green leaves and buds. In fact, there has been hardly any winter kill at all! I forgot to say that it is in a western exposure area so it is not in the most protected area anyway. Overall, I am pleased with its performance. I am not crazy about its smaller leaves but that has nothing to do with its performance! :-) OK, I am greedy - I wanted a small lilac shrub with the large lilac leaves.... NOT GONNA HAPPEN! LOL...See Morehydrangeasnohio
