Pruning Viburnum

My Highbush Cranberry took a beating during last year's hot, dry, summer. It appears to be dead all through the center (3/4 of the plant). The sides that were covered in sweet autumn clematis are leafing nicely. My question is, do I cut the whole bush back, or just trim out the larger dead stems a few each year. This is a well established bush which has never had a problem before. Thanks for the help.
