Heirloom Body Bag
Comments (28)LOL, I deserved that Harry. Heirloom responds very well to severe pruning. There is usually a couple feet of green cane on her in spring. I always cut her back to a foot tall. Greenhaven, blackspot is not a problem here on healthy plants. We only see it on new or stressed bushes. Powdery mildew is a problem and Heirloom can get a severe case of it. I haven't used fungicide in 4 years but Heirloom would get some pm even when I used the stuff. I wash the underside of foliage twice a week with a hard, fine water spray. She stays clean for us now. Others will have to help you about blackspot. Shame? OK, I was vewy, vewy bad. I see now I should only have posted pics showing a bit of Heirloom. Is that better?...See MoreHD Body Bag Alert
Comments (27)I thought about Trospero's comments a couple of days. My thoughts are that he is absolutely right about voting with our wallets. But..... I recognize that not everyone who loves roses has the funds to mail order only the best. Some have to love what they can afford and buy locally. I thought it was better to know they are in the stores earlier rather than find them later. If we all choose not to buy roses from places like Home Depot, does that tell HD that the public does not want roses? How do we tell them we want better roses if we just stop buying and don't actually voice our thoughts to the buyer (for the store not customers) Maybe the better thing to do is to email the stores with what we want and why we don't want what they are offering. If growers have no market for the lesser plants and have to discard, does that raise costs so high that the already reduced numbers of companies have to eat costs, raise prices and reduce the varieties offered? The great irony in this, I have an order list that I printed out from a specialty supplier (out of state) Beyond the cost my big reason for not having hit submit on the order: The comments they send out too small and often mislabeled plants (no idea on the virus infected but one has to suspect that is probable on many just because of the use of Dr Huey)....See MoreBodybag rescues part 2. Impatient, World Peace, Moonlight Magic,
Comments (7)I'm trying MOONLIGHT MAGIC one more time. This yr it went right into the ground. We'll see what it does. Nothing so far... WORLD PEACE is a pretty good one. Has beautiful coloring. Not a real great repeater for me, but it's in a somewhat shady area (under a pine tree), so that could be a factor, altho it's relative LOVE & PEACE does very well right next to it. IMPATIENT is one I got a couple yrs ago as a baggie bareroot. It's done very well in a 5gal pot. Hopefully it'll get in the ground this summer. This bloom was over a week ago. I seem to remember it smelled pretty good.... As for QUEEN ELIZABETH.... I realize that rose has been a standard in many gardens for decades... but personally, I find it very boring!...See MoreBody Bags at Walmart
Comments (13)Wow! I had a feeling I should have gotten a couple more of those - now I know it! One thing I like about these is that they dont have wax on the canes. I looked at them a bit ago and am already seeing little leaves start to come out. I saw some potted type body bags at Sam's yesterday - they had that wax on the canes, so thinking these at Walmart are going to be pretty good roses. Thanks for the comment on Royal America - will definitely go get more!...See Morekstrong
