Acquiring a bush that produces white roses

Hi, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but I've been searching around, and I can't find anywhere else that might be able to help.

I'm looking to get a baby white rose bush for my girlfriend for Valentines day. I was thinking she could keep it in her house until it got warm out, then plant it. But, I have been unable to locate any distributors on the internet or locally that will sell them before like may. I was wondering if anyone here might know of an online website or a nursery that ships year round?

Nor East roses sells year round and they have very nice plants not bare roots. If you could call them they might could even try to pick out one with buds on it since its for a special occasion. Thats very sweet of you but be warned--you are about to start her on a bad but beautiful addiction. hee hee!! Good luck finding one. Judy

One more thing, when I was in Home Depot the other day they had some real pretty potted roses inside for sale with real pretty blooms. If you have any Home Depots or Lowes you might could check there too but I don't know what zone you are in so they might not have any. I would check with any local nurseries or even florist because they carry rose bushes around here too. Judy

Mswmom, not knowing the variety name limits some of the information we can give. Can you provide a better description of the blooms (number of petals, fragrance)? How long has the rose been planted? I can tell you that 3 - 4 hours a day of sunlight is not enough for good blooming to occur. You'll get some growth, but modern roses typically need a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight to flourish. Also, some roses open quickly and are done in a day. It happens. That isn't damage from thrips. It may just be that this rose is new, and needs time to establish. You don't say how long it has been since you deadheaded (cut off the old blooms) roses need some time, 4 - 8 weeks depending on the rose, to rebloom. You don't say how you are fertilizing, you should be using some fertilizer on the plant. Also, watering is key, "whenever the ground appears dry" might not be enough. Check into the soil to make sure that the roots are being hydrated properly. Don't spray anything unless you know for sure that you have an insect or fungal problem.

Thank you Lilyfinch Oh !! I can not disguise my passion even speaking a language that is not mine? Oh! It is difficult to hide the emotions when they are very intense ... I check that the Google translator uses the same term when I write "garden" (total area, which includes ornamental plantings and there may also be an orchard area inside) and when I write "Orchard". He always translates as "Garden". Could you help me by telling me what term you use in English when you want to refer to the area where you grow vegetables? Is it correct to use the term "vegetable garden"? Thank you very much!! Oooooh! She is beautiful with that red rose! Does she have room to grow out away from the railing, ie she’s not right in a walking area? If she does, then she is probably fine. Mine is on her own roots and is extremely disease resistant. She isn’t getting all that much water either so she seems very adapted for a hot dry climate. You could tie some of the canes up and then horizontally on the railing. Also a few could be trained to wind around the post. I have seen some incredible pictures of her with blooms all along the canes. while some roses ( I’m looking at you Paul Neyron) want to only bloom on the very tip of the cane. She should bloom all along the canes once established, which would be gorgeous along that white railing and maybe even up the post.

OMG this is like being asked which is your favorite child! How do you answer? My answer is, I can't answer. At least not off the top of my head. But, I CAN say off the top of my head that Lyda Rose might be in the group. But there is a reason. I have mostly shade in my yard, and after years of trying (sorry, David Austin, I really did try) I have come to the conclusion that I can't really, truly grow a healthy, prolific rose. Except Lyda Rose. She is healthy, vigorous, prolific, fragrant, hardy, and beautiful, and all in part shade. If I had more full sun to grow roses, she might not make the top three favorite. But in a practical, what-favorite-rose-can-grow-in-my-yard list, she is at the top. Loving the pictures here, even if they are a bit of a dagger to my shaded-yard heart! Many of the roses mentioned are ones that I tried to grow so I love seeing the photos of them! :) Dee

Oh Prettypetals -- I LOVE it that you informed Criticalstriker that he MIGHT COULD check to see if either Home Depot or Lowes has roses that will suit his needs!

My SO ribs me unmercifully when I reveal my southern roots by stating that such & such MIGHT COULD accomplish this or that. I was beginning to think I was loosing touch . . . thank you, thank you for restoring my fragile sanity and well-being in this (somewhat) northern hell hole that I now call home.

I'm so glad to oblige you jaxondel!! I had no idea that using "might could" meant southern dialect. What do I know though because I have lived everywhere from Africa to Florida to Michigan and now Georgia. Yep, Air Force brat!! I was born in Africa and now reside in Georgia due to this was where my sweet daddy decided to retire. Anyhow, sorry you are stuck in that northern h*#% hole. I was just at Chamblees Roses yesterday and they have very healthy Green Ice and they ship anytime.
