I was thinking Doronicum too but didn't know whether it would would growing out in the woods. Also 1 1/2 inches seems a little small for the flowers but I've only seen it in gardens where it's well fed.

Correct, both Senecio plattensis and S.aureus are now Packera plattensis and P.aurea I beieve the plant is P.aurea -- look at the basal leaves clearly seen on "Yellow weed pt2" link above. Compare them to plattensis/aurea basal leaves (more images could be found under the old name -- Senecio aureus).
