Natural Pond and Water Lilies

Sorry if this is a little off topic. I have a water garden with a water falls which is doing fine. My question is more about my natural 100 yard by 30 yard 18 foot deep "in the center" pond.

We have a local lake that has MANY wild water lilies on it. My wife picked up a floating flower yesterday and it closed before we got home. I put it in a bowl of water in the window and the minute the sun started coming up this morning, it fully opened again.

What I would like to know, is what is the best way to transplant / or get these lilies started on the edge of my natural pond. Do the floating flowers drop seed in new locations or do these plants only spread under the water in which case I would need to dig them and place in the shallows of my pond?

Any help would be great. I need plant coverage in this pond because the bass eat all of the small fish because they have no place to hide

Thanks in advance
