Aside from your collection, I noticed your P. lusitanica. It looks very similar to a ping I saw growing in the mountain called "Madre Sierra" in the state of Jalisco, in Mexico. It grows about 2 to 3 inches in diameter and its flowers are white, short spur and a yellow to yellow-golden throat and it grow on a 6 inch pubescent scape. I'e always wonder if I have discovered new species of ping because I have not found any description abut it anywhere in the Internet. So I plan to go there next year and collect some seeds and seed of a another type of ping that looks similar to P. Moranesis that turns dark red almost maroon under direct sunlight with violet colored flowers. But thanks again. Most fig enthusiasts agree that Celeste is one of the best tasting figs, if not the best tasting fig. The major issue in this thread, in my view, is whether there is any significant difference in Celeste and the majority of the figs shipped and sold by TyTy as "Tennessee Mountain Fig". The overall consensus seems to be that the figs are one and the same. I suppose I can understand a marketer renaming a fig in order to generate excitement (Nero Caesar, Tennessee Mountain, White Italian, Patrick's Supergiant). Most of the fig varieties listed by Condit have multiple names and some have dozens! The names are often evocative of the history of the figs and tell a tale of the convoluted journeys they have taken. As enthusiasts, however, it is very useful to have names that we all recognize. At times, there are still surprises. For example, a few years ago, DNA testing revealed that Vista Mission and Violet de Bordeaux were one and the same. An examination of the leaves and fruit of the two varieties in my collection verified the finding. A couple of final notes on Celeste: Although it is a great-tasting fig and a "must have" in a collection, as a commercial fig, its small size is a real drawback. A larger fig, such as an Adriatic, is more efficient when making preserves or when picking fresh figs to sell or share with your neighbors. Also, in my opinion, the key to avoiding fig drop in Celeste and other varieties is to be sure that the tree is adequately watered. Shade is not the best solution. The tree will survive, but fruit production will suffer. The application of well-composted manure just prior to the growing season is also helpful in improving fruit production.

Well I called Bellsouth and boy am I fuming over this! First a technical note: when you upload pics to a website, that uses bandwidth. When you upload a LOT of pics to a website, and then download others off the website to make room, so you don't exceed your 10 megs of free space, that uses a LOT of bandwidth. They told me that, bascially, I moved too much information around last night so I'm being penalized. They have blocked my site for 24 hrs. and there is NOTHING I can do about it. So, tonight, at 4am, if I want to I can move pics around again and you should be able to see my site from that point forward. The things that make me angriest are: 1) There is no way for me to tell how much storage space I have used up. (I get only 10 megs - who knows how much I have used?) 2) NO WHERE on the Bellsouth personal web pages site can I find ANY reference to this ridiculous "bandwidth" policy!
