Our Pond in Progress--Pix

We had a low place between the driveway and a creek on our farm which stayed weedy, black and mucky. It was a great breeding ground for mosquitos but you couldn't get a lawnmower in there and it had springs so was flooded after rain and stayed muddy and wet pretty much all year. We had a friend with heavy equipment come dig it out last year and we have a 175-foot koi and goldfish pond we are slowly working to complete. Here is progress so far this spring.

Thanks everyone! I am so enjoying just the empty space and walking around it. I do have concerns though because the space will be tight with everything in... That is so funny. Never even saw the bunny before...the "eyes" of the bunny are actually the holes for the bracket and wires for the tv that will go there. breezy--that is the frame for the hood, the hood lining is already in and they will be covering the hood in plaster and adding columns later. Thanks for the tip on paint. oldbat--cabinets are due July 25th. :( marti8a--that green house in back is our garage. And the space between the house and the garage is essentially our "backyard"; it's actually technically a side yard. I will take pictures as they build out the range hood, thanks for suggesting that, as I am not quite sure how it's all going to formulate.

My mom just had this granite put in her kitchen. I was worried about seeing it because they weren't sure they liked it at first but it was mostly because it didn't go with their wallpaper. When I saw it I was thrilled. It's so beautiful. I want it for my own house! They have to lose the wallpaper and the old matching balloon shades. I think that is what is bugging them also the fabricators were not too careful with their house. It upset them very much so it took the shine off the new thrill of having something new. I am hopeful when I get that wallpaper changed out it will make them happy. I can't say enough how beautiful this granite is. Their's is so pure, it doesn't have any rust splotches in it or odd discolorations. It is a very all over pattern with gorgeous colors. The background color is a beautiful off white. It makes their older cherry cabinets that have a medium stain look so upscale. I am happy that you posted BS pictures as that is a place they need to do something. I bought them some new canisters and the color of them looked so good with the granite I was thinking that a simple neutral shiny tile would be great. Not white but a really great shade in a handmade tile that will have shadowing in it. It sure did look great with those canisters if I could find that color it would be great. I'm so pleased with it. It's a truly beautiful stone the only thing is the Typhoon Bordeaux slabs I have seen here are nothing like my mom's. Be careful when you are picking out this stone as it varies tremendously. I love the way your tile looks with the stone. I have seen that tile in a salmon color combination with African Ivory granite and off white cabs, it was stunning.

Wow your countertops are exquisite! I thought maybe bamboo granite, but it's quartzsite? I need to learn more about quartzite! Jon, can you please tell me where you purchased your stone? I love green and I love that stone! For your blacksplash. I wish I had a specific product to recommend, but I don't. However I do agree with the others that the tumbled and honed stones don't fit. I think that product is too matte. With your rich cabs, gorgeous countertops and stainless appliances you need something with a little light reflecting sheen. A crackle ceramic subway was the first thing I thought of too or maybe glass, but sandwiched between 2 strong elements I'd keep it simple. I'm not against a light neutral color that's pulled from your countertop, but not sure what. Have patience and take your time because your choices should become more apparent once the countertops and stained cabs are all installed. That countertop is the star and I can't wait to see your finished kitchen!

LOL! Yes, we were 'up the creek without a paddle' so he had to use my shovel!!! We were trying to get the air bubbles out of the liner material. Thanks for the complements!

That is amazing!! I wish we had the resources to do something like that. If I had my way, mine would probably take up my entire yard! Great job, LOVE IT!!

Lori_Carolos, we don't have the resources either! LOL! Everything we do is on a shoestring and DIY. Our friend doesn't charge much for the digging and the liners are used vinyl billboards we get to cover hay bales on our farm! Most of the plants have been begged, borrowed and stolen from friends and various other spots on our farm. The fish are 27 cents at PetSmart and some were given to us. Most of the waterlilies we got for free from my brother and a guy who advertised on Craigslist. So, jump out there and DIY like we do everything around here! I always joke that I cut my own hair and my dogs--and with the same scissors. And, it's true! I'm posting more pix from today in a new post soon.
