Name That Plant!

Can anyone help me with identifying this? It grows wild in my back yard. I'm IDing everything I can discover, but this is one that has eluded me. It's a pale purple blue, has thin leaves, has 3 petal lobes on the bottom - with 2 smaller lobes on the top, and another part that lashes out from the bottom.

It grows maybe about a foot tall, no more...

I thought it maybe looked like some variety of a Lobelia...

Any leads appreciated :)

I just had a feeling this was an herbacious plant and indeed it is.

"Robustissima" says it all - a very vigorous plant with a spreading habit, winter hardy in zones 4-8. You should have no trouble growing it in NY.

Descriptions say it is xeric but it has only appeared when we have had a gentle year. I can't say it is wet since we are still 10' below normal for the 12 month period. The rains have been well placed and all gentle soaking in rains, not he 8" downpour and nothing else. I have been using my very new looking, but old, unused mushroom book. My land was also over grazed so between the drought and the cows, it might just be more recuperation of the land.

I was going to chime in and say No, it's Linaria canadensis!
Googling Nuttallanthus I discovered that L. canadensis has been transferred to this new genus. Thanks for the lesson, Carol! A rose by any other name...

When I saw a name I never saw before instead of Linaria, I too was going to disagree...haven't even finished my first cup of coffee yet and I've learned something new! Thanks!

Hooray for such knowledge. :) In my limited scope, if I would have stumbled upon that Linaria, I would surely have presumed this to be it.

I should post my final link once I'm done with positive IDs on all 90+ of my plants and see if any errors are caught! ;-) I'm basically journaling all the wild plants around me (and a few others) right now, having spent the past year+ just watching them from spring to seed.
