it is also great for fertilizer, I've read. add the leaves to your compost pile. it has many "old timey" uses, as well. friends and myself have planted it in the wrong spot and wow...good luck getting rid of it. methods that finally DID work include...digging two feet down, pouring plant killer in the hole, filling hole with gravel THEN black plastic. yikes!

Well I see 2 pics again. I wonder if this is a Monarda? Was that a suggestion last time you asked? The leaves are curled up strangely and there are so many bunched up with the bud. It's been a while, but I don't remember Monarda doing that. It looks like the stems are square. Do you notice any odor if you tear/crush a leaf?

Hypericum androsaemum. Probably and most likely 'Albury Purple'. In z5 may die to the ground, but will resprout from the roots. Will self seed. If it will blom for you this year, babies will be visible by fall. You may want to dig out some of them and overwinter in unheated garage to make sure you'll have it for next year.
