You are a little early. :) But you might just keep them if you put them each in their own individual pot and give them diffused light, such as that from a window. Do not feed. Once these things take off, they could take over your house! If they were mine, I would try to keep them alive but stunted until I could put them outside.

So I don't need to keep them covered for humidity? And what do you mean take over my house? I still have some seeds leftover. When is the best time to start them? BTW, its been less than a week since I planted them in those peat pellets.

Once seeds germinate you want to uncover them to prevent rot. I'd put them into individual containers and keep them under grow lights until you can plant them outside. They get big pretty fast so you'll probably have a sizable vine before it's time to plant them outside. I'm in 7a and usually start the seeds in April and put them outside in mid-May. I also direct sow hyacinth bean seeds in May.

Definitely take the domes off. Pot them up into at least 3 inch wide pots. Then I would continue to grow them under the shoplight until the weather is warm enough for you to harden them off. Put some kind of stick in the pots for the vines to twine around while they grow, I use a shiskabob skewer. It's good and bad that you started them this early. Last year I started mine in late March, they germinated well but once they got to a height of about 5 or 6 inches they plateaued until they got outside. They didn't bloom until late August. Maybe yours will bloom sooner. I don't think they will take over your house since they need hot weather to really get going. Good luck.

Bean seeds grow really quickly, but they do need warm weather to flower. If you repot them into 4" pots, press the stems well down into the soil so that the stem top is just showing, it will give them added strength. The leaves will begin to open, I would suggest that you keep them warm but out of direct sunlight, as they will get too leggy and will not survive. They do not need started until late April or even early May.

You really need to get those stem buried when you pot-up. I can see the roots on a couple so they are way too shallow.

Okay, I put them in 3 inch peat pots for the time being. In a couple more days I'll put the peat pots in 6 inch plastic pots. What do ya think?

You can wait a little while before putting the peat pots into bigger pots. You want to make sure that they get enough light while they are growing inside so that they don't become leggy and weak.

They eventually will but it will take longer than 3 days. You should have a couple weeks before you'll need to put them in larger containers. It's not a problem if you want to do it sooner but you don't have to rush. You might want to put some space between the seedlings so that they don't start wrapping around each other. Someone mentioned giving them something to climb on in a previous post. That might be a good idea.

You're in zone 5 so probably 3 months at best before you can put these outside. 3 months is all it takes for this tender vine to complete cover an arbor :-) It's wonderful to have seedlings indoors in winter, I'm an addict myself, but think within 30 days you will probably say goodbye to these as they outgrow their spots and tangle with the fluorescent fixtures. So here's the 'next step' that I would suggest in answer to your original question: Pick out some nice slow growing perennial seeds and start those next :-)

No way to stunt them, but keep them strong, huh? I'm glad I still have some seeds left. My lattice fence is aching for some greenery.

Oh, BTW, are they twiners?

LOL, am I the only one who noticed the first set of pictures, they looked like little yellow flamingos poking their heads out??? I almost bought some of this seed earlier today, can these grow in hanging baskets? if so, that might be an idea for your seedlings :D

You might try this to keep them stunted...I did this last year and accidently stunted mine. I put them in clay pots and had them in the shade and they never got more than a foot tall, then when I saw they were not growing well, I put them in the ground. These things took off and were almost 20 feet long. They overtook my satellite dish that is on top of my garden shed so bad that I had to go cut them back away from it. The pic below is in September, by the end of the season they were half way to the house on the satellite line! The blooms are beautiful though.
