Its an incandescent right? If so, then you probably made a mistake. I did that exact thing and ended up returning it as it does absolutely nothing to benefit the growth of your plants. It may say its a grow bulb, but if its incandescent, all it does is give off heat.

Tom, Where the farm is the ISP is dialup at 22k on a good day, mostly 14.4, no cable because the state says it cannot cross a power line above ground and it would cost too much to bury it for only one customer, no cell phones work reliably because the tower is on a different mountain top. The mountains cut off everything including satellite TV. The city is a ten mile drive around to the other side. Regular TV was 3 channels when I was there and I'm not sure it still runs with the new digital TV signals now. The kids enjoy the ATV's, snowmobiles & mountain bikes... lots of walking & hiking trails to use them on and the trails go right on up into Canada. They enjoy living there because each kid now has their own bedroom. There's a brook fed pond at the bottom where they can fish, gig frogs, etc. I left my aluminum row boat there and they use it, they ice skate on the pond in winter. When they came to visit I asked how they liked living there and they all excitedly related tales of doing this and that and how cool it was. Lou

I recently read an article about this I believe from the Texas butterfly ranch. I can't remember the specific ratios of the fertilizer they said is safe but it's only three additives. I would think that Miracle Grow would not be safe if you sprayed it on the leaves. I've read a slow release fertilizer spread under the plant are dug under the soil is OK. Also, say this you might be interested in if you have tropical milkweed. But researchers at the University of Michigan warn that, if you grow tropical milkweed for monarchs, don’t treat it too well: Fertilizing the plants (with nitrogen, anyway) increases the levels of toxic cardenolides that stunt or kill Monarch caterpillars.

I grow jades, jungle/forest cacti, Adeniums and one very evil 'true' cactus here in the not so tropical UK, so they are mainly grown indoors. Miracle grow is often spoken about on here and over on the Adenium forum but I personally don't use it. Lots of mixes such as MG are sold as specific c&s soils, however, the consensus on here is that it (and many other brands sold as such) contain far too much peat (organic) and not enough inorganic components. I can suggest searching at the top of the page for gritty mix, it will give lots of useful info for a far healthier mix for your plants. I use equal parts bark, sold as reptile bark or similar, horticultural grit...aquarium grit could do just as well, perlite and a multi purpose compost ...which yes, I realise does contain peat, but with the ratio above of other added things, it works well and my plants don't rot.....yet! The jungle cacti don't actually grow on the above mix though, they are in a more humus rich mixture. Some growers that I know of use MG cut with 50% perlite, but I find with such a high %age of perlite, it can rise up like magic to the top Layers of the mix very easily, also the pots are less stable due to their light weight filling if this particular recipe is used. It's a case of trial and error as you can amend the ratios to suit your own plants and the conditions you are growing in. The above is what works for me and mine.
