Pond wall bulge - repair ideas?

I have noticed a problem with our 1 yr old, kidney shaped pond, about 19Â X 11Â X 24" with vertical walls. A 6Â section along one side of the pond is beginning to bulge the liner 6-8" into the pond near the bottom. This was around a spot where I had removed a larger rock and the ground was a little damp. Since it has gradually gotten worse, I figured I need to fix it before it becomes more serious.

To fix it, IÂm planning to drain most all the water, remove the rock collar around the top, pull back the liner, remove the dirt that slid, cut and install a piece of plywood or something rigid suitable for ground contact, back fill with loose soil, reposition liner, rock and refill water.

Does this sound feasible or am I missing something.
