Question about transplanting seedlings

I start my seeds in Peat Pellets inside of a gallon milk jug on top of my upright freezer. After they sprout I move them under my grow lights. They are doing quite well and I'd like to plant them into styrofoam cups. On the tomatoes I will bury the peat pellet and a lot of the stem as I know they will get more roots that way and become a lot stronger. My question is should I do the same with bell peppers and flowers that I've started or just barely cover the peat pellets.

you can transplant the others the same way

thanks I thought I did that last year but couldn't remember.
Now I just need to find some good potting mix and get them done.

Topher thanks for the advice. The link you posted shows Majesty's like full sun. :o) It's been 5 months since I moved my Majesty. It did go into shock, lost 3 fronds. I have 1 new frond fully opened, and 1 tall spear, and 1 short spear. It hasn't grown much so now I'm wondering what to do. I can transplant it again to zone 9a in a more secluded frost protected location but that doesn't guarantee it won't get way below freezing. I can also dig it up and try again next year. I can even move it to another location in my yard. I was trying to salvage my Majesty but I'm scratching my head. Anita how tall were the Hawthrone plants? They could of been sheilding your Majesty from direct sun and now it's in shock?

I do have a good-sized double-layered hoophouse, though even before I had that I still started tomatoes quite early, transplanting out under wall-o-waters. One pre-hoophouse year I had ripe 'Early Girl' tomatoes by the end of May. In retrospect though I might should've held off the bulk of the planting until this month, which would have had the later-planted seedlings at about six weeks for giving away to people without gardening structures around our frost-free date of ~April 15. But we'll see how the Nebraska weather looks then. I've only been doing seedlings for other people for a few years, so I'm still working out all the kinks. The Siberia and Wisconsin 55's, plus the ones for my own family's consumption get seeded early though, and go into the hoophouse (or under water cloches) well in advance of the frost-free date. Before too long they'll likely be living outside, too, in the hoophouse or in the 4' x 8' heavy-duty cold frame supplemented with a seedling heat mat.

Well, the transplants are in their new "home" and looking much happier. And the little ones are doing much better now that the light isn't so far away. The lights I have are only 3 feet long, so that's why I had to put the bigger ones under a different one. 3 feet looked longer in the store than it did once I put plants under it!! Edie

ediej1209 - Hi, in response to your question the answer IMHO would be no, don't add anything yet. Since epsom salts is water soluble you can always add it later, when the plants are in the ground, if you think there's a need. Occasionally a little fish/seweed emulsion, well diluted, will feed the little darlings without stressing them. Best of luck and happy tomatoes.

The peppers, yes. The "flowers," well...what kind of flowers? Pansies, petunias, and others that have more of a crown rather than a stem, no. Definately not. As for those with a stem, again, what kind of flowers? I think you might want to elaborate....Kay.

I wouldn't transplant the flowers as deep as a tomato. you're likely to just get stem rot. most landscape plants prefer not to have their stems buried. producing a flower isn't nearly as much work for the plant as producing a tomato, so I wouldn't worry about using that kind of method to encourage healthy roots.

I know that flowers don't like their stems buried. I meant the bell pepper. I know that when you plant tomatoes transplants deeper, more roots grow out the stem giving them a better root system, I was just wondering if bell peppers did the same thing.

yes, bell peppers also sprout new roots from the stem, just like tomatos. You were on the right path - transplant them a bit deeper.
