I'm not sure just how much 'Red Cascade' -- cascades.
When I saw it at the ARS garden in Shreveport, it was growing as a trimmed hedge, about 4-5 ft. tall!

Is this to be in the raised bed or to the side of it?

If this is to be along the edges of the raised bed, I don't think Red Cascade would be a good choice. While the blooms are mini size, the plant definitely is not. It would likely take over the entire bed.

How interesting about Red Cascade. I have this on order from Nor'East this spring and they have it billed as suitable for a container and 18" tall. But really it can grow up to 5'? I'm so confused:(

My Red Cascade is a terrific, non-stop bloomer, but it is a real "space" hog. Mine is growing at the center of a low fence section (4' tall and 8'long) and the canes (very thorny) routinely grow beyond the length of the fence. I love this rose, but only the blooms and leaves are mini on this one!

OK I let go of Red cascade it's not a good choice. Any Ideas for a pink, white or red repeat blooming climbing rose with flexible canes that can be pegged. Thornless ( Souvenir du Dr. Jamain ?) or nearly so would be a real plus and of course if I could have it all I'd love good fragrance lol. The rose will be planted in the raised bed unless that proves to be a bad idea. I am open to planting it in the ground against the blocks of the raised bed.The other thought I had was a wide spreading ground cover rose to cascade over the top of the bed wall. Getting back to Miniatures -- very few of them will stay in the 18 inch range.
Micro-Miniatures do, but I don't know how they "do" your winters.
I think you might need to first determine what roses will grow dependably for you.

Here's another thought: if the roses are planted along the outside edge of the bed, they will be more susceptible to the roots freezing if you have more of a zone 5 winter - just like a pot would. I have raised beds and *usually* the snow covers them right up and insulates. Every now and then, we have a winter that doesn't conform to the norms and I have one side or another of the beds exposed. I have lost a few roses that way over the years.

BTW, I concur on Red Cascade being unsuitable for this location. Mine is planted in a rock covered slope and spreads out 4 to 5' in each direction - and that in zone 4! Maybe a rose like Sweet Chariot would work, although it would be lavender, and not keeping with your color scheme. If it were me, I'd go with some upright growing roses in the middle interspersed with the daylilies, and some nice cascading annuals around the outside. Don't forget, you'll have to be reaching over those thorny 'cascading' roses to reach the middle of the bed for weeding and such. Just my 2 cents.

I agree about Red Cascade. It gets huge. I had it at a former home and wasnt that crazy about it. It just sprawled everywhere, needs plenty of room. Gormet Popcorn and Green Ice are 2 whites that might work, and Sweet Chariot is a really nice mini rose. You could check Nor'East or other mini sites for 'hanging basket' roses. Or ask on the Miniature forum. Maybe Scarlet Meidland might work - a friend of mine had that one, it was a beautiful cherry red and was draped over her koi pond and was really lovely. Maybe one of the other Meidland roses in that catagory would work. There are lots of good ground cover roses. Check on helpmefind under groundcovers. Good luck! Judith

This is not a spreading rose but it stays less than 18", the blooms are floribunda size and a constant bloomer, no deadheading necessary.
