We have this shrub in the back yard that has thorns, no flowers, shiny green leaves, opposing leaves and a strong smell when crushed/cut. We don't know what it is, but I wanted to add an additional image. I think it is a weed, but we can't figure it out. It is growning in an area where I had previously planted a vine/grape but the leaves are not right, so I don't know what this is. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
