nice site with covers, oddly the daisy selection had no daisy in it, it was one with no flowers and one with petunia and pansies. Dont forget 4'oclocks one of the oldest varieties and is making a fair comback in many gardens. i Like geraniums big balls of color and petunias & pansies are always good for constant flashes of mixed colored blooms. Gerbera daisy is always good for near the back of the garden as their blooms come well up over its foliage and offers hight, then behind them snaps, gladiolas and lilies. Crinum and canas and amarylus if you need some with bulk and extravagant sized blooms. Granted not all my selections are annuals some are annuals in the north, yet parennial in south. some are true annuals or perennials. I don't have any of my gardens with just one or the other. One note: pansies don't seem to seed well, their little cusins the jump ups do. I had over 100 pansies last year and not one this year, but i had a dozen johnny jump ups last year and now i have hundreds this year.

Walmart nearly always has pentas in their first spring shipment of plants, so I usually just buy mine there. Before I put them in my cart, I check to make SURE there's no cultivar name, like New Look. I tried New Look pentas one year, and the butterflies ignored them - never again. Almost Eden is a mail-order nursery in Louisiana that has numerous colors of pentas, and their prices (including shipping prices) are very reasonable. I've ordered pentas from them and the plants have always grown beautifully - last year I ordered some rose colored ones from them, because Walmart never carries that color. Unless you're in south Florida, chances are you don't need shorter growing pentas like 'New Look' anyway. They're very cold sensitive, and they've never come back for me, even in springs after very mild winters, where we only had one or two very mild freezes - most people have to start over with them every year. Mine usually only grow about 3' or 4' tall, never the full 8' or 9' you hear about in south Florida. Sherry

I'm not all that partial to the single roses as they look too much like the wild ones that grow here. So while they are pretty I'd think twice before paying good money for a single rose. However I do like the old-fashioned hollyhocks. I also suspect they are tougher plants. I've had great difficulty growing the 'fancy' hollyhocks altho had no trouble with the singles. I like the ruffled tulips and IMO the double geraniums are an improvement over the old plain insignificant ones. I guess for me it depends on the plant and I don't mind that hybridizers improve on plants altho some I don't consider an improvement but I don't have to buy those. However I have had the thought to do an old fashioned garden but I know I couldn't keep it 'pure'. I do like to let some plants self-seed and the 'improved' ones probably won't come true so I'll always keep some of my 'weeds'. I like having some plants that may have been grown hundreds of years ago in a cottage garden.

Ok. I ordered the Laura Bush. Planted the seeds and now I have the sprouts!!!! Got 4 packages....if the bunnies don't eat them and Sam (my dog) leaves them be, I have some petunias!!! Also, talk about luck, my neighbor gave me three starts of her self-seeders.....how blessed am I!
