I know I should search or google but I wanna whine about this....LOL

Was finally getting a chance to clean out my pond after the winter, water was crystal clear, last years potted waterlily are breaking the surface, snails are happily leaving trails up the preformed sides. My shop vac is a pain but working 6 gallons at a time to remove the leaves and mulm that is on the bottom, I drain the vac and think there is a snail in the bottom, I touch it, its a leech, no...its two leeches!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

How can I get rid of them and sterilze/treat the plants before I put my fantails in that have overwintered in the basement! BTW, I freaked and drained the 170 gallon pond so now I have to reestablish a bacterial colony before putting the fish in. UGH,
