I don't have any advice, but sure am sorry you and your fishies are going through this. Some of my fish had mouth rot when I started and it was awful.

Rita--I have used pimafix & melafix with great results. That said, Fin or tail rot is usually a water quality issue. Have you checked the ph, kh, & ammonia in your pond? I don't remember if you have a filter, but if you don't you should make one. That will help with the water quality. Hope someone who has had this problem will chime in to help. Good Luck

I just finished (yesterday) a week long treatment of Debride because I wanted to do the right thing and deworm my fish. Unfortunately, I had to overfeed to get them all to eat and they would only eat after the food stayed in there long enough to get nice and soft. Its a sinking food and I am sure it elevated the amonia, nitrate and ph levels. I don't know anything about kh. I had a test done just before I started the Debride Treatment last week.

Before this, I would feed them very lightly every two to three days. So no food for them now until this clears up. I noticed that the Algae on the side of the pond has really picked up in the past day or two.

I have a pump/UV/bio fiter combo unit but due to high fish load in my 300 gallon stocktank really feel that I need another bio filter.

Also, does anyone know if I can use both Pimafix and Melafix at the same time? I am not that confident in my diagnostic skills and figgure treat them for everything would be best (but not if you can't mix medicines).

Well, worse this morning. The fish I first noticed this on I had caught yesterday and stripped off the fungus. It was back looking the same today. Another of my fishes has it starting on the tail and I haven't seen all of them yet so I do not know the full story. I put both pimafix & melafix in today.

Yes Rita, You can use them together. I have several times. If I were you I would do a partial water change & add a temporary mechanical filter to clean the water faster. Sounds like things are going downhill fast. Unfortunately that will happen when you overfeed, which is most likely the cause of your problems. But all can be fixed if you stay on top of the problem. Also be sure to clean your filter pads often. Good Luck & keep us posted.

Today things are much better. No new cases and on those that I cold see the tail "foam" I can not see it today. Now I would have to net the fish to see if its really all gone but just swimming by, I can not see it. And I could see it yesterday as they just would swim by.

I did a small water change today. Did not want to do too much because of all the medication.
And of course I used both pimafix & melafix again today.

The worst part is that I was trying to do the right thing by worming the fish. From now on I am buying my medications in the type you just add to the water, not the medicated feeds.

Rita, Glad to hear things are getting better. It is amazing how doing just one innocent "wrong" thing can make your pond go bonkers fast!!!I had never heard of de-worming fish, go figure.....I had excellent results when I used the pimafix & melafix....I would continue for several more days. I saw on another post where your water tested high for phosphate & marginal for Nitrite, Did you test the PH also? High PH will limit the plants ability to absorb necessary nutrients possibly causing your sickly hyacinths. Low PH can stress fish, cause skin problems & supress the activity of the biological filter. Hope everything settles down for you. Keep us posted.

I have been treating with both everyday yet including today. I think they recommend you treat for a week on the label.

Just noticed the label said peel back for more info and I did. It just tells how safe the products are and which of them is best for each problem.

It did say to turn off the UV during treatment, which I had not done. No way to turn my UV off as its all one unit. Turned everything off right now while I think about it but I can't leave it.

I found one of my shubunkins floating dead in the pond this morning. This one was mostly moving slowley the past few days, enough for me to notice but if harrased, it would move quickly so I never thought anything was wrong with it. Just that it was a slow poke.

It didn't have signs of any type of fungus or infection that I could see.

Could it be the melafix is getting too concentrated in the water? I think I remember reading about that on Doc Johnson's site. I had a fish with fin rot and black spots on its gill covers. I used melafix and the fin rot got better, but the black spots didn't. So I tried KoiZyme, and that seems to be working better. So sorry to hear about your fish dying. Maybe a water change would refresh the rest of them a bit.

Today was my last day that I was going to dose them. I have been doing very small water changes. Still they say to use it for aweek and that you can use it longer. The fuzz rot problems have been gone since Friday so I think I am ok.

Its not overfeeding as once I finished with the Debride (which caused overfeeding problems) I did not feed again until Saturday and gave them so very little that I don't think everyone got some. Haven't fed since and not going to feed for awhile. The fish are hungry and want to eat.

Rita, Sorry to hear you lost 2 fish :( I think I would stop treatment & test the water again to be sure everything is in balance. I think you should also feed once a day, just make sure you feed only what they will eat in 3-4 minutes. When my fish stop eating if there is any food left in the pond, I net it out with a 4" aquarium net. Are you feeding a small floating pellet type food? The flake type food is harder to remove if it doesn't all get eaten. Hope this helps.

Yes, I have floating food. I never have problems with the floating food as I can put it in the feeding hoop and if not eaten, easily net it out. This last time they scafed it up so quickly there was no need to even think about taking it out. It was gone so quick.

I am stopping all treatments for now and see what happens. I hope things return to good.

Better today. At least no dead fish. I am going out to clean my filter, I am sure its gunky again.

The water in my pond lately is so clear, you can just see everything. But it still has that foam that came from the medications.
