Trying to identify a spring flower, pink, low growing. No Pic

I've seen a low growing pink flower in springtime in someone's flower bed (NY) for two years now. I never stopped to ask what they were, now I forget exactly which house it was at. It was low growing, as the weeks went by it spread, looked creeping. The flowers were a soft pink color, cup shaped. It almost looked similar in shape to a bluebell or a buttercup, but bigger, maybe an inch big, bowl shaped. The flowers almost seemed to hover over their greenery. The greenery looked soft and wispy similar to how some coreopsis plants look, maybe about 4-5 inches tall. Anyone have any ideas of what this could have been? It was in the same spot both years. I have searched dozens of pics of springtime plants and never found anything close to it. I would like to get it in the ground for Spring. (Of course I was zooming past when I saw it, I may have some specifics wrong since I haven't seen it up close) Thanks for any help.
