A few are still blooming

Many of my roses go "summer dormant" here when it's near 100F every day.

But this morning, these three were there to greet me with my AM coffee.

Randy, what a wonderful shot of Heritage! Mine is not blooming yet, I can't wait for the next flush... As always the combination of pink blooms and bluish leaves of Nur Mahal is very beautiful.

Hi Randy, Been missing your beautiful weekend picture posts. You must have been on vacation or very busy! I am thinking of getting more of SDLM. I bought one from Chamblee's in the spring and it is soooooo healthy and has produced a few nice blooms in this heat. Is that where yours came from? I would also love to get Nur Mahal but understand it isn't at ARE right now. I'll try Vintage. My husband would love a "thornless" rose! I think my Jude is about to croak. Cut off all sick looking canes. We'll see. Thanks, Buff

Marg, oops, didn't notice that the second one wasn't labeled. It's ALEXIS SUNNY PANTS, a Paul Owen intro and doing great for a first year plant. the Jury's Out has a lot of buds for a new plant and late is always a bonus. LATE LATE SHOW was new last year and has really upped the bud count this year. I love the color. The only Aster I've had long term luck with is Aster Oblongifolius "Raydon's Favorite". Our heat/humidty during the long summer is not kind to most other Asters. But it's a tallish Aster (3 feet) and I would love to grow another Aster with a lower profile such as the one you show. You started it from Seed? That's pretty amazing. I will check into it. Maryl - I have crossed Pink Aloha with two of my pink seedlings and some other pinks. Whether the seedlings will survive is another question. I lost nine of them to fungus gnats/ A lot of people I know have crossed Pink Aloha with beautiful pinks, and have not gotten anything registration worthy out it. Buntyn got two very nice pinks from it, and there are 12 other registrations with Pink Aloha as a parent. Several of them are peachy pink. One is even a UF - Sneaky Girls by Judy Davisson. It seems to me none of the kids have the super color that is Pink Aloha's unique selling feature. Several of them are peachy pink, one is a fuschia pink, one cream, and another is lavender. I like your daughters daylily too. Nice girly pastel color..........I always enjoy seeing your tropicals. I grow the yellow Tecoma Stans "Gold Star" every year if I can get my hands on it. I've seen the orange one for sale too...........I'm impressed with the color of the Erythrina B (Coralbean). I've read about them before a bit, but wondered what to do with them in the garden. Masha, my 'Heritage' is currently in a full flush. In this heat! I don't know what it's "thinking" to dare to be so voluptuous in August, but the blooms are pure of color and well shaped. I cut some of its buds for vases this morning after taking this pic.

Buff, I have been busy, but mostly its just been to hot to deal with taking garden pics.
No, my SdlM did not come from Chamblees. I got it at Northaven Gardens several years ago. They are a fantastic local garden center in Dallas.
Sorry about your Jude nearly croaking. Yes, your husband would love 'Nur Mahal'. Smooth as a baby's behind.

Florence, the blooms on Heritage right now are the best looking blooms in my garden, by far. I'm really proud of the way it's performing. I thought it deserved to have its pic taken :-)
I have two Nur Mahals. This one is a rooted cutting, and it's really lush with flawless foliage right now. My other Nur Mahal is in a less than ideal area and it isn't as well foliated as this one is, but it still looks pretty good, considering our current temps. This young NM is in a great location, easy for me to "pamper" it during the 100F days with lots of water.

Hamp, we have gotten some nice rainfall recently. My 'Heritage' rose reacted in a very pleasant manner and promptly began a full flush after the rain. It was a nice break.

Beautiful roses. I tried NurMahal a few years ago and it was not happy with me - your picture makes me wish I hadn't given it away :-(

Pacific Serenade sure is a pretty yellow! Is that a mini rose?

Frances, yes, 'Pacific Serenade' is a completely thornless, nicely fragrant, miniature rose.
