Where oh where did this summer go? I canÂt believe tomorrow is the last day of August. Yesterday I took a walk about with my camera so I thought IÂd share my morning walk with you.

Although the daylilies are done the driveway garden still offers lots of color and texture. The containers are so great for end of season color.

The large urn has completely filled in and is so pretty against the Sambucus

These little evergreens and heathers provide color and structure when all the herbaceous perennials have died back.

IÂm thinking of expanding the mailbox garden and planting one of these Miscanthus Morning Light there this fall. IÂll see how much energy I have left after tucking all the tender plants away for the winter.

IÂm loving this Fuchsia Golden Marenka hope to be able to winter them over this year. I picked up four plants on sale at the Keene, NH flower show in the spring and theyÂve really done well for me this summer.

Very pretty Deanne. Your Fuschias are so nice. Do you have to keep them deadheaded. I could see where that would eat up a lot of your time. They just don't like it here. The driveway garden looks great in all seasons. You sure have that planned well. Norma

P.S. I see you have your Purple Emperor corralled. Mine sprawled so I guess I will have to try that next year.

Thanks Norma, yes, believe it or not I DO deadhead the fuchsias almost every day. And it does eat up a lot of time. I used those "Y" stakes to 'corral' up the Purple Emperor.

Last bloom today on THUNDER DRAGON (Gossard 10). It's been a great season for this one. Also, rebloom on CHIEF DAN GEORGE (Dickerson 92). This daylily, registered as a mauve bitone, is probably the scariest plant I've ever grown. I picked it up maybe two years ago from a club event with no idea what it was like. It's currently an enormous clump, just huge. I'm afraid of what it'll be like next year! Even though it's supposedly just a bitone, mine has shown pattern almost every day. The color is not good, but I've loaded it down with pods, with the pollen from every patterned dip I've got here. I don't necessarily expect great seedlings (although I am curious), but maybe all those pods will slow this monster down! If that doesn't work, I could always plant it outside the deer fence. I had a last bloom yesterday on CANDY APPLE VELVET (Kirchhoff-Schindler 11). What a red! If you like red daylilies, please let me recommend this one to you. Picture on the Daylily World website fails to capture the intensity of color. It's an evergreen, but hardy, and like the description says, not only did it bloom early, it was a true extended bloomer, and it rebloomed. Also yesterday was last bloom on the late-blooming THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE (Bachman 09). Very bright, clean color. Not as tall as its registered 40", but it's newer and could use another year to settle in. It would probably help if I gave it more space as well. That means redoing that bed. Who has the time??? !!! And I have a very nice rebloom scape on EXTEMPORANEOUS VIRTUES (Hanson 07), with at least four more buds still to go. A very pretty daylily. Now that it's reblooming, I like it even better!

I SO agree with everyone else, Ingrid! Please do keep them coming. You may feel like you’re showing the same things over and over, but WE certainly don’t feel that way. Each new bloom is new to us, and your photos are some of the most looked forward to on this forum. That’s the way I feel and I’m sure I'm not the only one. We love seeing what changes the weather and seasons bring to your roses and landscape. It makes me feel like I “know” your garden, and how it’s doing year round. I especially enjoy seeing pictures of the places I’ve seen during our visit. That Baronne Henriette de Snoy gets me every time! What a wonderful color. Each bloom is special and I love seeing them. Aunt Margy’s Rose is such a delightful cutie! I remember seeing her up against the NE side of the house and she was so tall and slender. I enjoy seeing her delicate mauve/pink little blooms. We have such similar taste, that it’s easy to love all your roses. That Potter and Moore is so pretty that I feel sad when I think of my cutting not making it. I really thought I had it gone successfully and then it declined after I removed the top. I think it was probably just a little too late in the year, and the warm and dry air was just too much for it when I removed the top. Another time perhaps, not that I would know where to plant it. Lol. I’d make room for a special rose like that, though. If my Duchess de Brabant doesn’t shape up there’s going to be an open spot there. Yours doesn’t even look like the same rose I have, with her lush green foliage! Mine is again full of curled leaves and ugliness. Our last heatwave must have been too much for her. She started looking bad a week or two after the heatwave, and isn’t really improving. I really wish I planted her in some afternoon shade, as you did. Your indoor picture is lovely, too. Your whole home is so beautifully decorated. I wish I had your touch with interior design. You know just how to display everything to it’s best advantage, without making it look cluttered. Debra , thanks so much for posting the image of Soul Catcher . I just recently added this one to my gardens and haven't seen it bloom so this is a perfect prelude to what maybe I can expect in my garden next year. Is Teddy Bears Picnic new in your garden? I can only go on what images I see on NGA and yours for whatever reason doesn't have the very distinct sharp eye that I see in those images. However I am only going by images on line . I do grow it here . Added it 2016 and 2017 from a grower down in N.S. but I have not seen it bloom yet . For whatever reason, the plants I get from this grower seem to take at least 2 seasons to settle in and maybe in the 3rd year I get to see a bloom . Happened on Sigourney added 2017 and finally saw it bloom this year same goes for several others too.

Thanks everyone! Softee is a great little mini. Bush gets about 2 by 2 ft. and it blooms almost constantly. It does spot some but keeps blooming anyway. Blooms are a little over an inch in size and have a sweet fragrance. This is my second Love Song, lilyfinch. My first one didn't winter but I loved it so much I tried again. So far this one is wintering just fine, 4 yrs now!

Wow, wow, and wow. I'm happy I got two fushia to survive in hanging pots :-)

Off the fushia track .. what is the white edged crinkly leaved plant with the Abutilon and Impomea. A Geranium of some sort?

I should be taking notes. You have so much late season interest in your driveway garden. My raised rock bed is pretty blah right now. How old is your sambucus? It is nice sized already. Your fuschias are out of this world.

Deanne, that driveway garden is just spectacular. So many interesting forms and textures. And the way the ground covers soften the driveways edge looks so nice. I cut back some of my sedums as an experiment in June and it worked well for me. The ones I did are so full and no flopping. They haven't bloomed yet but will soon which is fine with me. Anything blooming late in the season I'm happy about. Yours looks so nice there in front of the sambucus. I know I say this everytime I see them but I just can't believe the way you have with fuschias. I'm not giving up but I'd be happy if mine looked half as good as yours. I'm going to give overwintering mine a try. I love the standard too. Maybe someday I'll be able to have one. For now my coleus standards are coming along. Much easier to grow those I do believe. Everything looks just great. It's so nice to see such a beautiful garden this late in the summer. Thanks!

Yes Martie that is a geranium.

Marian, I keep telling you that you'd do very well with some of these upright fuchsias. Let me know any time you change your mind. They are a lot easier than many of the hanging ones.

Michelle, this is my third year with that Sambucus. It really has gotten some size to it this year.

Eden, I pinched back several of my sedums this year also and am very happy with the result. The ones I didn't pinch are flopping now and the ones I did are like you described, full and just about ready to bloom. I'd love to see a pic of the coleus standards you are working on. I started one with 'Dragon's Claw' and it is just about ready to be pinched for the first time now. I highly recommend wintering over your fuchsias. Next year they will be twice the size and have twice the number of flowers.
