'Bug, wonderful shots. I especially like the way the trees look black against the sky. What is the purple leaf plant behind the 'Frosty Morn'? It really makes a nice backdrop for the 'Frosty Morn'.

Well, I grew up on a farm so had all the experiences of helping out around the farm as a kid. We still live near my parents and I have a very hard time living in town. When my husband was in the military (16 years ago), I looked at the map before we even moved near the base. I looked for the most rural small towns I could find that were close enough to the base and that is where we rented! I still was so homesick for the country though! Of course, it didn't help that we movd all the way across the country and I didn't see my family much for 3 years! We have 20 acres now and love it. We just moved here not long ago, so I don't even have chicks yet. I had them where we lived before but when they got old they went to my folks to 'live out' their days scratching in the dirt, as I knew we were moving and I couldn't take my coop. Husband is building me one this Spring so I can get more. We have 2 dogs, 5 cats and 1 very old horse at the moment. We hope to get some piglets to raise over the summer for meat. I guess you could say farming is in my blood, although with 20 acres we would probably be considered hobby farmers now. But I do have a life long background in farming. Karen

Hi Everyone, I have been 'offline' after a major computer crash...but like a weed, I'm back! The weather is 'iffy' for Sunday. Looks like rain but Sat looks good....I am hoping the weather does what it has been doing to date - not following the forecasts!!! Calagary has sun all week and quite often we get their weather by the weekend - so I am not giving up hope. What do folk want to do? We need to make a firm decision on FRIDAY EVENING - I WILL POST ON FRIDAY for the weekend. All of those attending - please email me through my members page - I would like to make a distribution email to everyone for Friday evening so people know exactly what is going on. I will also supply my phone number via email only to registered members so you can call me if you are not sure what is going on. RAIN OPTION WOULD BE TO HAVE THIS ON SATURDAY IF THERE ARE ENOUGH PEOPLE INTERESTED. (You would have to go on without me! Sniff....) I'll be there with my Aunt. I'm bringing ribbon grass, some sedums, some coreopsis, a couple daylilies,seedling annual hibiscus, a few gardening magazines. My aunt has some perennial geraniums and daylilies. I had thought I'd have some seedling cukes and squashes to share but the chipmunks thought otherwise. Oh I have some extra tomato plants...my former employer dropped off about 20 Better Boy tomato plants for me. If anyone would like to trade me some other type that'd be great. I'll bring them anyway. You were busy! It all sounds wonderful. It is amazing how far you have come in one year. I think you're a natural gardener. (Must be your mom's genes!!) Perhaps the birds planted the lemon balm for you. I love lemon balm. There is a huge one in my garden and I just dug up a little volunteer out of the path a couple of weeks ago and planted it in another bed. I thought lemon balm would reseed everywhere, but it hasn't. I mulch everything quite heavily, so I don't get as many volunteers as I used to. We had trouble keeping stuff alive around our pool when we lived in Fort Worth. For a while, we had a pool service company and they were part of the problem. Even though they placed a tarp over the pool when they applied chemicals (to keep the fumes from rising up too quickly and hitting the plants?), they still killed ALL my plants (and I had a lot) around the pool twice. We not only started doing pool maintenance ourselves after that, but also switched from chlorine to Baquacil. I assume the little one is growing well also and hope your sweet wife is perhaps getting a little more sleep. Remind that baby boy to buy his mommy a Mother's Day Gift! (Gotta train them right!) Dawn

'bug, beautiful photos. My flowers are all tired and burnt from the sun. Hopefully my new bed will have some August beauty such as yours obviously has.

Hi, Just checking in to see if we got those babies yet. T, you need to start posting a daily report.

I've been chopping and yanking in the garden all weekend. It's pretty much all weeded too. There are some things I need to move and many things that need to go into the ground. Lots more work to do but I feel like I'm making good progress. The only problem is the neater the garden becomes the messier the house interior gets. It is even possible to have a tidy garden AND a clean house?

Marie, these are just sublime photographs. I love this time of year,past the peak of summer, the time of coneflowers and joe pye weed and soft sunsets at the end of warm days, coming noticeably earlier than they did a month ago. And even with some weeds and some bare spots in the garden, it is still a time of wonderful bloom. Wish those G*D* japanese beetles would disappear though, they eat the roses and lots of other plants into oblivion.

It was so great to see you at IU3! Wasn't it fun? Maybe next summer we might come to Ontario again -- in the garden season! David
