Name That Plant!

Off topic, a little - what's with the photo galleries?

What's the deal with the Photo Galleries? There's one called 'Name That Plant', but it doesn't seem to be connected with the forum at all. And I notice no one from here seems to post over there, which considering that the same pop-up pops up every time you open a photo, and you can't put links in the answers isn't maybe so surprising. What are they trying to accomplish with this?

I went over and checked it out. Odd place but you can leave a comment but the one I left didn't show up after I posted it. There is a photo of a red and white Hippeastrum. The person was wondering if it was a lily and there was already one post where the person thought it was a daylily. I answered Hippeastrum and hit post but it didn't show up. Maybe it takes time.

I know the pond forum has an area called Discussions where you stay on topic; another area called Conversations where people can chat about many topics, and then a gallery too for posting pictures, although people certainly post photos in all the other forum areas too.

It would be nice I guess to have the Name That Plant Gallery right here where you could switch to it more readily. I wouldn't mind a Conversations area here too so we could chat more about gardening or other related topics and not have to stick to just plant ID only.

I didn't see a Name that Plant gallery. Can someone provide a link to it?

Kathy, my kids would have loved you. My Grandkids would love you now but my girls would hate you. (grin) I just might steal that idea.... My kids never encountered "candy rationing" either. They ate as much of it as they wanted, when they wanted. I usually used the rest of the chocolate Easter bunnies to make chocolate chip cookies about September. As for Halloween, anything that wasn't eaten by Christmas got used in the Christmas baking or taken to work for the candy jars, where it got thrown away when the Valentine's Day candy got brought in..... And neither of my girls were ever overweight and both have perfect teeth! I did get all black jelly beans and anything else made of black licorice. Now I'm pickier, I want licorice All Sorts, LOL, or Black Crows. Annie

A little off topic - mudroom cabinetry/storage

Mine is more of a mud hallway that connects my garage to my kitchen. It's about 6 feet wide and I have shelves on one side, hooks on the other. I'll post the shelf wall below. The shelves on the left (actually you can't see them because they are above the bulletin board) are 10 inches deep and the shelves on the right are 16 inches deep. This hides the 6-inch bumpout of the refrigerator on the opposite side of the wall (hope that makes sense). The black cabinet is a shoe holder from Ikea and the colorful boxes are from Crate and Barrel. I already had the magnetic bulletin board and it fit perfectly.

It seems to be a place just to post pictures. But the name seems to imply that you're supposed to get information, too, and that doesn't seem to be happening. And the software is clunky - I double posted because the comment took so long to show up, and I tried to put a link in it and it didn't accept the comment at all. I guess what I'm thinking is it looks like competition for this forum, which seems odd. A good many of the posters there should really have posted here, but there isn't really any kind of link or suggestion that the forum would be a better place than the gallery.

The link to it is also on the 'our' Name That Plant front page - a link to 'share the season with our Garden Galleries' or something like that. It is a showcase of photos but I agree with WW, there should at least be a link to the forum names that are represented in the galleries, back to the forums where the discussions take place. Otherwise just gloss. I'll have to check back to see if my post ever took. I was going to download a photo, but I noted it said from your computer, not a host site and it could not be more than 500kb, and I'm not donating any of my photos to be owned by GW if I can help it.

Comettose, I just checked and your comment is there.

I do not see the purpose of that gallery either. It just seems weird to me, when people can post their pictures here for identification.

I think it's poorly organized. While looking at a blue Iris, I saw this thumbnail which was hidden from view on the main page.

Which Lonicera is it?

The only 'Magnifica' honeysuckle I've encountered is an L. sempervirens cultivar.

L magnifica is listed as a wildflower in my Peterson's. I admit I've never run across it in person.
