Hard cane dendrobiums in the UK

Hello, some more winter advice required! I've had a couple of hard caned Dendrobiums for a couple of years - I don't have an ID but they seem to be described as Emma or Phalaenopsis types. I find that I can get new canes each spring and then later in the year I do get flowers however about this time of year the leaves turn yellow and fall off leaving the plant with very few leaves over the winter or even none at all. I've read that some dendrobiums can be decidious if the temps are too low - is this natural leaf loss I'm experiencing due to UK winter temps being a bit on the low side or do I have a problem? Thanks for your help
