Oh, roselee, what wonderful gardens you have! I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of your yard--lovely things blooming everywhere.

Aside from your gorgeous roses, I took particular note of the vivid blue larkspur blooming all over the place. I do that too--let it re-seed itself every year. Mine won't open for a few more weeks, however. Really enjoyed looking at yours.

Thanks Kate and Krista for looking and commenting. I agree the blue larkspurs go great with roses. A few white and pink colors come up every year and that's fine, but they are pulled before they go to seed so the blues will predominate.

Larkspurs don't last all summer but there are still a few as late as mid June. Angelonia and Henry Duelberg salvias provide the blue/purple color into fall although they are not quite a showy as the reseeding Larkspurs.

Florence and Ingrid, thank you for your kind remarks. I've seen pictures of your gardens and those that commented above and to my eye your gardens are a little bit of heaven on earth. Isn't it fun to see how others design their gardens according to their climate, location, selections, and tastes. Even though our gardens may be different we can get ideas from each other.

I'm enjoying another visit to your gardens. I appreciate your sense of humor in so decorously decorating David with strategically placed roses. Ahem! And I'm really taken by the Texas mountain laurel. I lived in Texas for 3 years and never saw any, so this is new and wonderful to me. And lastly, your found rose is absolutely amazing--so packed with petals, the delicate shading of the blooms--marvelous!

I get a lot of teasing on the Texas Forum about David. I got used to looking at him and never think about it when taking pictures near him, although sometimes I clothe him with a fig leaf at family gatherings. Then I get "Oh Mom, you're such a prude". Once my grand kids dressed him in my garden hat, a shirt, with my pruning holster hung over a certain area so Wanderin' Wind makes a nice solution to the 'problem' ... LOL!

My friend Shirley just posted some pictures of my front yard on her blog. Not many roses now. I used to have about 30 roses including minis in the front -- until the deer moved in! Between them and the water restrictions we decided to convert it to more xeric plants. It's still a work in progress (as all gardens are in general :-) and I'm enjoying this part of my garden very much.

Thanks Florence! I got real brave a few years ago and painted a big Mexican clay pot cobalt blue. When I put pictures of it on the Texas Forum not one person commented on it ... LOL. But when a friend came over and saw it in person she said, "That blue pot looks better than I thought it would." Hahaha!

After all this is a hot climate so hot colors 'go'. Hence, I've gotten more and more bold with paint and really enjoy the effects. I don't think I've overdone it. For one thing I tone the pure color down with some antiquing in most cases.

There is a yellow section in the yard with various yellow toned flowers and a couple of light yellow painted pots you may have noticed above, a purple section, the aqua, a little acid green, plus there is some overlap. So when flowers aren't blooming there is still color. Thanks for noticing!
