San Jose Heritage Rose Garden

I visited the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden recently, and saw some wonderful roses in bloom there. Teas and Chinas were in bloom, and also some Bourbons, and many others.

Unfortunately, I don't recall the names of some of the roses that I photographed....I will note the names of those that I can remember...

I think this is Duchesse de Brabant

Might be Duchesse de Brabant....

Eugene de Beauharnais

Another Tea, perhaps Marie van Houtte

Krista, I'm so glad you got to visit this beautiful garden. I haven't been so lucky yet and so doubly appreciate the pictures people are kind enough to post. I think you're right about the first picture being Duchesse de Brabant. It's a really lovely bush. The one you've labeled "Tea Rose" looks quite a bit like Mrs. B.R. Cant, although smaller than a mature bush.

We'll be leaving early in the morning, and look forward to seeing everyone. This time, I plan to take pictures. :-) We're bringing an 'Aimee Vibert' from the Sacramento City Cemetery, to contribute to the sale. It's a Legacy Plant in the cemetery, and gorgeous there. But in our conditions, the blooms don't open well. It should go where it can fulfill its' promise. And, for Jo Pyeweed, we are bringing the Atmore Lamarque, that we promised. (And, Jill, we are bringing the promised Fairmount Proserpine -- well-grown, and ready to go into the ground.) Jeri

Helen, very informative posts - part one and two! Great to see the full bush shots and the close-ups with the tags. Also very interesting to see how the different roses are performing health wise. Thank you so much for taking the time to post all these lovely photos. Sharlene PS - very impressed with Galaxy (Moore 1980)!! Oh and seems they have the label for Red Fairy (Moore 1995) in front of the wrong rose???

I was there a few days ago. So much to see and what a great resource for rose growers. Looked like black spot has been running amuck there, and a lot of the roses are defoliated. I'm glad that they didnt spray, since it showed me which roses did better during height black spot pressure (not much of an issue for me, but still good to know). Now if only they had an Austin trial garden... :)
